Now, i talked to someone there and they said i need the install kit (new volume knob, battery pack, and an different jack that shuts off and turns on the pre-amp) or would it just wire up like a passive and work fine, or would that sound stupid, frogive my stupidity.

Re: Help me findout what model EMG this is please

Nope, you can't wire it up like a passive pickup. EMGs use their own wiring, pots (25k) and output jack. You can usually order it up from EMG or an EMG dealer. They have them on ebay fairly regularly too.

Also, the wires look very short, have you measured it up to see if it will reach your pot?

Will this be more then a regular pickup to have installed? and if the wires are too short cant they just extend them?

And if the "Pot" is my volume knob, then yea they would be just barely long enough, perfect lenght.

Re: Help me findout what model EMG this is please

its 25k pots, EMGs are different to the 250ks etc of passives

Yup, EMG 81s have the silver logo on the front. Now what does that sticker on the back say..... :laugh2:

Re: Help me findout what model EMG this is please

yea, weird thing about it is, its not the quick connect thing? does this mean its like an orgional one? Anyway, i'm calling EMG tomorrow and ordering an installation kit for it (i hope that works [crosses fingers]) Would you guys advise me to have em just cut off the tone knob or have em drill my guitar and have a tone knob put in, cause the rest should go fine, only takes 9volts.

emg only started the quik-connect a few years ago. obviously this is a much older 81. what bothers me is the epoxy color. i have really old emgs (abt 12 yrs) and they all had black epoxy to seal the pup instead of orangey...

I've seen lighter epoxy on some older ones, kinda of a tanish-orange.

i see! so no worries now! never had the experience of epoxy color other than black. thanks carrot!

Im not too worried anyway, its only $25, ill only be mad if i get it installed for $40 and it dont work good lol. Btw, sence its hard wired i only need to get:

EMG-12B with Battery Clip Set
Code:EMG-12B

and the 25K Volume controll right? what model code would that be you know?

Thats the only parts i can think of besides some batteries, anything im missing?(going to get cool volume knob too :D)
