Help me ID these Pickups!

I have some pickups I bought in the early 80's. I'm wondering if any of you experts can help ID them and impart any info? (attached pics.) The humbucker is clearly an SD pickup. I think the one with the 1/4" magnets is a Quarter Pound? The PAF I think is a DiMarzio? And is that a "stacked single coil?" Thanks in advance for the detective work!

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, the HB is a “JBJ” ie a JB by Maricela Juarez. The single coil with fat poles is a SSL-7, a Quarter Pound Staggered wound by Connie Rocha.

Here you can check SD pickups by their labels done prior to 2002:

I’m no DiMarzio expert but the other one I would guess is an HS-1 from the 70s/80s.

Amazing! I knew somebody would have the answers. Thanks for the detective work.

Do you know if the wire colors are the same as today's models? In other words, if I want to wire up the SSL-7 with a switch to go from double to single, would any contemporary wiring diagram work?

Re: Help me ID these Pickups!

Follow up: would it be crazy to put the SH-4 (JBJ) in the middle position? I have a lot of guitars with a humbucker at the bridge and single coils in neck/middle—you always see that, and with good reason I suppose. Just wondering what it would sound like if I mixed that up and put the DiMarzio at neck, SH-4 in the middle and the QPounder at the bridge? Have to do a bit of routing to get it done — there would be no going back so I'm kind of nervous to try.

My pleasure.

AFAIK SD has not changed colors

All three pickups are hot. The JB IMHO is meant to be in the bridge but it’s up to you :) if you end up putting it in the middle I would definitely lower it.

That JB deserves to be in the bridge. It will generally overpower almost all pickups in the middle position, unless it is set really low, which will adversely affect tone.

Understood. I'll keep it at the bridge. Thanks
