Help me identify this pup!!!!

Hi,
I've just received a HotRail pup. On the pup's box is written SHR-1b. The question is that "b" comes from the "bridge"? I want to replace my neck pup from my Jackson and I wonder is there a tone/output difference if the pup is HotRail/bridge?

Thanx in advance,

Mike

Re: Help me identify this pup!!!!

Hey Mariuss!

Bridge models, to compensate for their placement on the pickguard - being further back closer towards the bridge, are a lot hotter than neck pickups.

Putting a hotter bridge model into the neck position means output overload! Because there are more lows in the bridge model (bridge position is bright)... the neck pickup will sound like mud!

Although I would say there are no rules, I wouldn't recommend it. If you're good with swapping pickups, you might as well give it a go - but I doubt it will come out sounding like you want it to!

Re: Help me identify this pup!!!!

well if you put a pickup thats built for the bridge, i believe it will be louder than usual and might be a little more bassy than the neck version of that pickup...bridge pickups are generally built for tighter string tension obviously because it is towards the bridge.....

Thanx guys, but I wonder if it's a bridge pickup or not. Who can help me? Evan, Jeremy?

Yes . . . its definitely a bridge model. Neck Hotrails are SHR-1n. ;)
