ok, i'm looking for a new bridge pup for a guitar i dont even have yet lol :smack: should be here soon...

anywho... pretty sure its alder. this is gonna be my DGCFAD guitar. i'm heavily influenced by Pantera. theres a poll with the ones i'm looking at, and an "other" option for your reccomendations :) let a brother know! lol

Re: help me pick a pup

ps... in case you cant tell by the poll, i like high output pups :D

Re: help me pick a pup

I can't really vote bcoz i haven't tried any of those p/ups, but ill throw another suggestion in.

The invader- didn't Dime use it before he got the dimebucker? I'm extreamly satisfied with mine, but then again like i said i haven't tried the others.

Re: help me pick a pup

I think dimebag does use an invader from time to time. That would work well, or you could use a Bill Lawrence XL-500. Dimebag used the XL-500 on albums like, vulgar display of power and cowboys from hell.

Re: help me pick a pup

If you tune down and use a lot of gain, you want something that's going to be kind of bright and punchy, just to keep definition in your tone. The Dime, Distortion, Custom, and Full Shred all sound like they would work for you. I've also heard good things about the Lace Drop n Gaiin humbuckers. They are supposed to be VERY clear sounding under gain. Some describe them as having a "clean" distortion.

This is a good point, im not sure how the invader would fair under dropped tunings (i play in standard), as many people say it is easy for the invader to sound 'muddy', so with dropped tunings it would probably be better to go with something that will retain the definition.

Re: help me pick a pup

Perhaps you may want a pup that's moderate in output. It may help to provide clarity when using gobbs of gain.

i don't use that much gain, just enough for gnarly palm mutes :headbang:

Re: help me pick a pup

In that case, I'll recommend the Custom-5. Great clarity, but gets fat when pushed hard.

Man, you think like me. "Well I need a seperate guitar for D and E, and Eb, and then CGCFAD, oh and a 7 string too..."

I voted for the Dimebucker for the mere fact that if you're heavily influenced by Pantera, get the pickup he has made for him. I have a Duncan Distortion and I absolutely love it. Although I voted for the Dimebucker, you WILL NOT be disappointed by a DD either.

Keep the GAS alive for us youths man!

i just got a dimebucker for a friend, but i'm gonna slap it in this guitar first lol see how it is

Re: help me pick a pup

Dimebucker!!!!! however I'm interested in hearing more of the El Diablo.... but other than that get a Dime!!!!

Re: help me pick a pup

I have a Jackson King V with the alder body that I tune to DGCFAD, one of the guys at the guitar shop I go to had the Rhoads model with a Dimebucker.
I had a DD in mine at the time and liked it better, but I still wasn't satisfied.

I tried the Custom SH-5 and found the sound I wanted.
He tried my guitar after, and liked so much he's putting one in his as well.

The Custom is an excellent pup IMO.

I put the DD in my other guitar that I tune to E and half a step down, some drop tuning to replace the JB I had and I'm very happy with that.

Re: help me pick a pup

ive heard that the dimebucker sounds great when downtuned, i say go for the dimebucker, im getting mine put in soon:)
