Help me pick out a new guitar

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

OK, so it's missing a couple odd things, like it wouldn't let me select a bridge pickup ring for some reason (it did before, so something glitched). Also, it doesn't have a switch, pot, and knob. Other than that, it would be finished, need to be bolted up, and strings put on. If you've ever used a screwdriver and a soldering iron you can do this.

And I didn't know what color you want and there might be other options you want, too. I did pick one of the more expensive finishes for this example. This will give you a ballpark.

When you see the body costs $680+, that includes pickups and hardware, too.

You can play with the builder on Warmoth's site if you want to see what different options will cost you.

I appreciate you going and doing all of that for me. It does give me a very good idea of what the cost will be when it's all said and done.

You said you use a lot of floyds, have you used used a tremol-no on them?

I have not as I've had no need. All my personal guitars with Floyds are non-recessed, so the bridge just sits on the body. I prefer it that way since my style includes double-stop bends, which always get weird on floating Floyds (the unbent string goes flat), and if you break a string it doesn't go out of tune. Plus I use a dTuna on all my Floyds, which can't be used on floaters since the E would drop to D but then everything else would go sharp.

I'm just trying to find a way to get a guitar with a Floyd (there are a lot more options I like) but block the Floyd and make it as simple as a hard tail in terms of changing strings and tuning

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

Well, like I said before, changing strings on a Floyd isn't actually too bad. Do it a few times and it's not really a whole lot harder than changing strings on anything else.

I'll definitely keep that charvel in my radar then. I've also considered making a hh Tele, but buying Fender parts are worse priced than warmouth

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

I just finished changing the strings on one of my Charvels....no biggie.

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

What you want is a G&L Invader. You can order these with the Floyd, the hardtail Saddle Lock bridge, or the excellent Leo Fender designed Dual Fulcrum Vibrato. Lots of finish options. You should also consider the Superman, and even the Fallout. If you like Tele styles, the ASAT Deluxe is a good way to go.

Take a serious look at G&L.

I'll go check those guitars here tonight! Thanks for the heads up, much appreciated

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

I made a block for my buddy's Floyd
Short piece of angle iron.
Two holes th fasten it to the body
And one threaded hole with a set screw
To push against the block

In effect made it dive only

But if it broke a string jt didn't go out of tune

You could change several strings at once

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

Hey guys, so, I'm I'm the market to look at getting a new guitar. I've got an American Standard at home, an esp les paul style, and a partscaster. I'm really looking for something along the lines of a super strat, but I don't really like messing with the Floyd. Here's a couple things I'd really like to have
25.5 scale
Hh setup
Comes stock with decent pups
Is almost any color that isn't black.

I've noticed some charvel guitars, but I can't find any hh models with a hard tail, only the Floyd. So I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for something to go look at and try out. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, forgot to mention, I'd like to keep it under a grand. Or right at a grand if I could snag it on sale for less

Buy the Charvel and do this conversion:

I have the same bridge on my Walnut San Dimas Style that was routed for a Floyd Rose–incredible bridge replacement for a Floyd Rose!

That's something I'll definitely look into. Thanks to jolly, I've got a nice looking deal for a charvel right now I'm considering heavily

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

I've had 3 I think tremol-nos in my time and they are great, but I greatly prefer just blocking them with wood on both sides. I never use my floyds (well ibanez edges), but I love how they feel, so I just block them.

Re: Help me pick out a new guitar

It's funny to me that the OP wants an H/H Charvels with a hardtail, while I want an H/S with a Floyd
