Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

Re: Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

Was that his or Paul and Gene's idea? For a while Eric Carr was gonna be a hawk, smh

Re: Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

Well, a Fox isn't really intimidating. A hawk would be an improvement.

Re: Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

Watched a bit of that VV video. Forwarded it a bit.

In some bits, I kinda liked the note selection here and there. Chaotic. Dunno if it was on purpose or not.

Other than that, it's pretty terrible.

Re: Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

I actually did'nt think it was all that bad... :p

I mean.. he has decent vibrato, pinches/bends notes fine, knows his way around a whammy bar & his timing is'nt as atrocious as it's being made out to be. On The minus side..some missed notes//slop, not a ton of direction perhaps & a tone & attack that probably does'nt have much universal appeal... but then I don't think you need to be tasteful to play metal.

In a sense he kind of reminds me of David Shankle...lots of speed and enthusiasm (sure some could argue he deserves a place in this thread :laugh2:)

But here's the thing... Triumph of Steel with Shankle is probably my second fave Manowar album (after Into Glory Ride ) :headbang:

Re: Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

Yup, I get you.
Kinda like the beginning of this thread with the VV shred video.
He is just wailing away but there’s no context to put it in.

But add a keyboard pedal tone it can sound awesome

Re: Help me with my Shred Congnitive Bias -is this the worst?

Haha Im not a fan of VV and never was and Im not watching that video but I can only imagine...

You need to google Curt Mitchell, that dude takes the win! So cheesy and such a dummmmass..
Doug Marks wasn't too much better.

Its so horrible. I actually think I have a vhs tape from 1992 maybe?? that's Curt Mitchell doing "In the style of" Randy Rhoads and he dresses up like him and everything if im not mistaken. I think he did that on a couple of his videos but I may be wrong. Its been a long time and im not a fan so nothing really etched itself into my memory aside from do not be that guy.

The first instructional video I got was Curt Mitchell, guitar in the style of Pink Floyd. So bad... cheesy 80’s rack tones, no vibrato or feel even close to Gilmour, it was bad. Amazing the quality of the instruction you can get in YouTube these days.

I just love power slop.
Totally my style....

He reminds me of a guy who only learned how to speed scale in his bedroom without ever learning to place notes in context or use phrasing and space.

It's bad

Watched 2 minutes of the VV video. Would’ve been better w/o the backing track, since he clearly wasn’t paying any attention to it.

I bet this is what all shreddy stuff sounds like to non-guitarists.
