Help modding this wiring?

Re: Help modding this wiring?

Yeah, don't buy anything from guitar-mod.com. Long story, but he stole some of his designs from Kent.

Thanks :)

I would suspect more like he picks someone else's brain to figure out the stuff for him. As that's what my experience with him was ... Anyway, Artie will probably be able to throw something together for you, as I'm involved in about six other things and two are rather complicated and protracted projects.

Re: Help modding this wiring?

Yeah . . . its about 4 am here, couldn't sleep.
I should have something posted shortly. I have this more or less done, on paper, just got to make the pretty picture. ;)

Re: Help modding this wiring?

Artie what switches am I ooking at in the wiring?

Iknow I need three Push pull pots and one dptd on/on switch. What else do I need? Which 5 way should I be looking at, just a standard one right?

EDIT: OK I think Ive got it

1 DPDT on/on
2 ON/ON/ON or ON/OFF/ON ?????????????
1 Five way selector, regular strat style.

Am I right?

There ain't no dual concentric push/pull pots! So that means if you want separate vol/tone control for the 3 of the HBs you are gonna use, you only can use 1 hole without drilling additional holes into the body, for switching purposes.

So if I were you (I don't see the point but anyway) I'd contact Deaf Eddie' Workshop and get myself a multiway rotary switch.

And if you use push/pull pots (all 4 of them) well then I dunno. Kent would, but it will be quite complicated. All of them must be DPDT (Kent are there 3way DPDT push pull pots ?), and it will be quite a funky wiring.

Re: Help modding this wiring?

Sorry I dont quite understand.

The number of holes I need doesnt matter as I am making the guitar myself so I will just drill the extra holes myself.

Funky wiring dont matter. Im having someone who did 5 years in collage studying electronic engineering wiring for me he just doesnt know how to come up with wiring schematics for guitars cause he knows nothing about them.

Hope this covers your queries if not could you please explain them simpilar?

Re: Help modding this wiring?

My idea doesnt seem so radical anymore! There are some other people interested in this setup aswel over at mimf. I just wish I had the money to build the guitar right now but I guess I will have to wait.

So Im going to be putting it into a SG I build myself based on a mix of an Iommi SG and a Voodoo SG and a bit of an Epi G400. Its gonna be a neck thru aswel with a trem. Still have to decide wether to wait for Floyd Rose to start producing there flatmounts again next year or put in a bigsby. Im looking at a 59n/SSL6m/JBb. I have custom inlays designed and it will be a mahogany body, goncalo alvez neck, swamp ash top and bottom and padouk inlays. Im gonnna turn custom knobs on a laith out of padouk with a piece of ebony on top. It will be a 24 fret ebony fretboard aswel.

Just a bit of an uptade.

Re: Help modding this wiring?

For a phase switch, you'll need a DPDT (ON/ON) phase mini-switch (about $10) for each pick-up (buy at any local electronics store like Fry's or search online/eBay).

If you switch to Concentric pots (no push/pull; and if using Dano's knobs, use a specific type of pots due to the knob's design), these usually run at 100K, 500k and 1meg. In my Dano '70 (1st reissue) '59DC-12, I used 100k (volume) and 1meg (tone) pots, with PIO caps valued at .01uf (bridge) and .047 (neck), and a new Switchcraft 3-way switch.

Good luck with you homemade desgin.
