hey folks, longtime sd user but for buckers mostly, i'm in a hard edged country band that plays 3 nights a week, just bought a hamer t-51(tele copy), it came with a sd broadcaster and a sd 54 in it, i need some pickups with more balls but still clean up with the volume knob, also not so icepickey like the broadcaster, for the bridge i'm thinkin a mini 59 or a quarter pounder, neck maybe a hot for tele, anyone have experience with these, your input is mucho appreciato..............................

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

I listened to the Vintage tele for Broadcaster and I thought it sounded Amazing! One of the best tele pickups Ive ever heard! Snappy, Clear and punchy while retaining true vintage output-- Great spanky tone. I think your just so used to Humbuckers! My first suggestion would be the Quarter pounder set. Big honkin tone but still true single coil for that tele vibe. But...If you have to, maybe a little 59--probably more like the little Screamin Demon--

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

I really like the Broadcaster, but I agree that it can sound bright, especially in an ash body.

this sounds too basic, but until you get different pickups, try rolling off the tone enough to balance out the highs ... that means of course that you'll need to roll it back up on the neck pickup, but that's the way some teles are

anyway, give it a try ... the bridge may sound a bit nasally, but should certainly sound good

you may also want to add just a bit of OD

+1-- Also, not sure what amp your playing, but backing off the presence could help also-- You might end up liking the pickup after-all; after fiddling with it ;-) Have you heard the clip on the SD "hear" page? Sounds great to me--

the next step would be a jd tele pup. little warmer, little fatter still twangs. the hot and qp are both great rock pups but dont really twang much at all, you can get tapped versions that will have an option of a lower output/brigher tone for more versitility.

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

i play with a small single channel tube amp with an angus young rythym sound with volume dimed on guitar and cleans up when i back off to 6 or 7, not typical country, not metal but not super clean, i guess my question is what are your feelings on the qp,mini 59 and maybe the vintage rails for tele, also the hot for tele neck, i'm very intrigued by the quarter pounder, thanks dudes...........

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

I suppose it depends on just how "Tele" you want your Tele to sound. The rails/jnr/hots are all great pickups, but they move the guitar away from it's traditional voice. Of course it's down to what you want from your guitar. I have a Broadcaster and a Fralin Blues Special in mine, with a 4-way switch to give me the ballsier series sound. I get the best of both worlds that way. Traditional Tele plus the "fatter" 4th tone. My feeling is that the QP set might be what you're looking for...

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd suggest adjusting your amp/pedals. I've got to the point where I like my Tele pickups bright. In my experience you can get a ballsier sound with lower-output pickups and the right amp settings, because the higher output pups get a bit muddy under gain.

thats just it, i don't need a tele sound, i do need the quack in the middle position, i was using a hamer daytona(strat copy) before this that had a custom 5 in the bridge and SSL-2's in middle and neck and i liked that alot although being a lifelong jb guy i missed the mids from the custom 5 but the chord work was ballsy, the mini 59 was my first instinct and may be the way i end up going as i would think it's a nice mid output humbucker that will clean up with volume knob, i'm just very curious about the qp................

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

so does anyone have an opinion on a quarter pounder bridge or neck, is it muddy????????? less output than a humbucker or the same????????? does it still have the single coil vibe???????? is it icepickey in bridge?????????? thanks dudes..................

Re: Help!!!!!!!!!!! P.u's For Tele..............

MikeS has a 1/4lber set in his 50's Tele. He also has push/pull pots to tap them. I've played that Tele before. It was cool and no mud anywhere.
