Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

Laney IRT-Studio? That's what i would get next....

that sounds interesting, im checking the videos. i havent seen any videos fo this RT STUDIO, but what it seems to me is that its either just the power alone in a rack mode, OR just the Preamp in a rack mode. Am i wrong here ? Is the IRT Studio both a POWER AND PREAMP in one device in rack format? if so, all i need is to get that amp and buy a 2x12 cabinet and put it in right?!?!
can i reduce the wattage???
Hey jclogstone... do you have any clips of yours playing this dimarzio dominion - liquifire ?!?!im interested in hearing it in a death metal situation

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

don't forget blackstar, they do some cool shizzle for upto 30 watts and come with a clean channel.

I also back the Jim root tiny terror as well, it has done well in reviews.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

I own 2 in the wattage range.
A Jet City JCA 22H and a Zinky Blue Velvet.
Have played just about any 20 to 30 watt rig out there and the Zinky always comes out on top.
She has only a single tone knob and mid boost cut switch but can get BRUTAL and LOUD but also get GREAT tones at super low volumes and has a GREAT clean.
Not cheap but worth every cent and they also have a full LIFETIME TRANSFERABLE warranty!
My Velvet is my #1 grab and go gigging amp out of the several rigs I own.
At really low volumes in a tiny room.

Large room unmiced off a camera mic

Amp has gain out the wazoo and these clips are with the gain at around 10 o'clock.
More gain on tap in this thing than my Peavy Ultra + head!

Hi -
The irt studio is a head in a rack format so you just need the cab to hook up. It has a 1 and 15W input switch. I don't have one yet but check out the reviews on sevenstring; that's where i have been checking.
I'll get one eventually but every time i decide to do it, my peavey bravo keeps coming through! :)

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

Why don't the krank jr's have standby switches?

Its not a have to have feature. If they want they can design a circuit to prevent the current rush when you turn on the amp to prevent any damage. The original intended use of the standby switch was really as a way to keep the am warmed up between sets while on break not so much to extend tube life. Some people will say that its to prevent cathode stripping but the voltages needed to achieve cathode stripping are way too high to be generated in an amplifier. So many companies particularly on amps skip it figuring they will save you the 15 bucks on the cost of the amp and you can just turn it off between sets.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

Rev pro Jr has a nice clean channel that takes pedals well. I highly recommend to use aTS or boost with the gain channel as it sounds a little scooped ,could do with a little extra gain and tightening up. Nails the whole ' metalcore' tone.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

Awesome cleans & the most full-bodied/meaty/brutal gain I've ever heard in a lunchbox-sized package.

15 watt, All-tube Chinese-made GOLDEA REX 3200 head with two completely separate channels/dedicated controls for each channel. It's super tight, punchy & articulate but also really thick and harmonically rich... never sounds thin, fizzy, dry or brittle.

I had a pretty rough, tension-filled time getting mine over, but it was way, way more than worth it.
