Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

If you don't like the Mini Rec videos...PLAY the amp. This amp will do way more than what I heard on the vids, and it has a great feel.

You should also look at the Mesa Express amps. I would choose the 50 watt model for metal. Most Mesas sound pretty good at low volume so don't worry about that little bit of extra power...its really insignificant volume wise.

The TA-30 might also work for you ith its Vox-lke cleans. A used Mesa DC-3 would be ideal...nice cleans and a killer Lead Channel.

Any of these amps could be stacked on a Mesa 112 Theile cab for added low-end punch and projection...handy if you drop-tune.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

From what I've quickly read, it sounds like the OP just wants to blast some metal in the bedroom and wants a straight forward 2 channel amp to switch between clean and metal. Some high end $1,000 amps: mesa, engl, etc. have been mentioned and no doubt they are good amps.

However, the blackstar HT series or Krank Jrs seem like a no-brainer for his needs. The HT-5, HT-20 get loud yes, but also are absolutely designed for low volume metal purposes too. Kranks have similar specs: clean to metal, low wattage. Both of these brands can be had for great prices. I've put an ht-5 through a 2x12 with great results in a live band setting and obviously it is good for low volume situations with it's cab simulation output, headphone jack, extreme distortion that sounds pretty much exactly the same if the volume is on 1 or 11.

If you want 100% clean, 100% metal, footswitch, effects loop, low wattage, then I recommend Blackstar HT or Krank Jr.

If he wants an aggressive metal tone, he's going to need a boost for the Blackstar HT20. I own one, and I'm probably going to sell it and get something more aggressive in the dirt channel soon.

Ha, yeah I hear ya. I forget that boost isn't a given. I always have od pedals ready to go so I don't usually even think about it. Yeah, blackstar is pretty fat like marshall, if you really want to grind and shed you'll probably want an od pedal in front.

Thanks for the input bill
take a look at my POOR situation : I live in a ****ty region, in a ****ty country, far away from EVERYTHING thats good(except women), so, only crap comes to our shops. theres no way for me to try any good amp here. i need to travel a bit far to do it. Q: /
my only resource is the internet, or when some brave person buy an amp like that, then i make an appointment and go there immediately to try it.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

yOU CAN'T PLAY ,METAL WITH ANYTHING LESS THAN A 100 WATT FULL STACK.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

You can, you definitely can, but you wont look "br00talZ". To OP there's a clean channel in that laney. search for more demos on youtube for the amp.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

I just got back home with a Mesa mini rectifier. If you get that amp and you aren't satisfied with the metal tones, I will personally fly to your home town, and give you a refund.

It's ****king amazing.

AHAHAH THATS A GOOD DEAL
hahahahaahahahahahahahahah
would you mind making a soundclip for me?!?!?! Q: )
I heard some demos of the ORANGE OR15 and i loved it. only doubts are if its tight enough on the bass department AND if it has enough gain to play metal.
same doubts i had on the th30
the mini rectifier is almost AT HAND , I JUST CANT PULL THE TRIGGER ON IT WITHOUT Some convincing clips.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

I saved up for awhile and got this beast :headbang::headbang::headbang:

Fender Supersonic 22. Great cleans and foot switchable high gain distortion. You'd be surpized.

Re: Help - Small (max 30 watts) Tube Heads for Metal??

i was talking with a friend here, and he told me that he sent a mini rectifier to a friend of mine in my city . he lives in the far south part of brazil and i live in the far northEAST part of brazi.. i imediatelly contacted my friend and he lended me a 1x12 cabinet loaded with an eminence speaker that i forgot the model, and the mini rectifier.
i plugged it in, and i got surprised with the amount of meat and tightness and volume and distortion. but the amp STILL sounds square like the conversion from the big dual recto to the mini wasnt 100% successfully. like with some collateral effects/damages.
but its still a nice amp. lest see how the cleans behave when you use a distortion pedal. and also with a delay on the effects loop.
i bought it ahahahaha
