hey im new to this site and to SD products.i bought a used JB a few weeks ago and im HOOKED!!I had never used any SD stuff.ive been usins Superdistortion, fred and tone zone.im experimenting with different tones, im definatetly on"THE QUEST"!!i quit using the super d it sounds rad but im looking for a more classic/modern sound nowadays, so i switched to the T.Z. and it was just what i was looking for. the fred was pretty awesome too.i dont want to sound Steve Vai modern though.the guys at dimarzio were saying to check out the EVO2.to geta classic/modern sound. anyway back to the SD's.i also got a jazz in the neck of my LP standard and it is different than any neck pup ive ever tried.very open and clear, no mud just what i was looking for. now I just got a used pearly gates bridge and put it in today.i like it but it doesnt seem as focused. so heres the question is there anything that is a cross between the two(JB,PG)?i havent tried a 59 or custom, i see you guy like these alot.i play LPstandard into mesa stiletto (sounds like souped up old marshall) im going for a classic sound like jcm 800, JTM 45 ETC.. not alot of distortion buy todays standards, crossed with old EVH brown sound for leads.i like clarity and punch not alot of low end but some fullness.the PG seems to have more low than JB.i also play in a band and im the only guitar player so maybe the PG will sound different with the band.the JB had PLENTY!! of cut but i felt lacked a little warmth, when i played with the band.ive been reading the 59/cutom stuff and it sounds cool,is this my path?ok so any help is MUCHO bueno!!thanks for letting me rant!im stoked there is a place for me and my O.C.D.!!!!!!!

I guess you'd love a Custom Custom with an a3 magnet!

A cross between PG and JB! This one isn't that easy. So the pikcup should have the screaming uppermids (which both the PG and JB has), should have some nice lower mids, and bass.

I think there are 3 other options besides CC with an a3 magnet.

- Rio Grande BBQ: Has them uppermids to the bone, but is dark, sounds dark. Think of Tone Zone sounding like a JB in the uppermids. Has very strong bass. But the lower mids aren't as round as I'd llike them to be. It sounds like a dark and beefed up PG with the exception of the bass side and the texture of lowermids (PG is way more smooth, afterall it is a a2 PAF clone).

- A hot PG+! This sucker (I love this pickup, but know that there are many here who thinks it is too top heavy) is a PG wound a little hotter, and has an a5 magnet instead of an a2. If you could find one, try it. It has that PG uppermids, and that's why it might be too bright for you. Apart from the warning, it sounds like a JB on the bass side, lowermids and is more open. Mine measures 8.75K, and it is the hottest PG I have ever come across. My PGb's measure 8.35K, 8.10K, 8.05K, 8.00K (the last 3 are great neck HBs ;) ).

- This one won't be easy too. Get yourself an antiquity bridge. And swap its magnet to a full strength a5. You'd have a great bucker. The only thing is that it would not have as much uppermids as PGs or JBs. But it would be thick it would sound open, ... Overall one of my favorite buckers!

Good luck.

Yep, try the Custom Custom. I really dig it in my LP through Mesa stuff.

PG+ is a duncan pickup sold by fender! The production does not have anything to do with fender. Its color is off-white, double parchment, and it has standard gibson spacing, that is it is not f or trem spaced! ;)

Personally, I would not say 2mm of a difference does not make any difference. Moreover, cosmetically, as long as in the bridge the strings not wider than 2 inches(the distance between high E and low E) standard spaced buckers are fine.
