Help W/ P Bass

Hi all.

I need some help choosing a pickup for a P Bass. The bass in question is an old US made Peavey with a maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, and an alder body with a top load bridge.

The unplugged sound is pretty balanced. This bass will be used for rock, punk, country, and reggea.

I was thinking of using the Vintage P, but was also wondering about other models, especially the Lightning Rods active pickup.

If passive is the best route, what values should be used for the electronics? Also, is it worth installing a series/parallel switch on a P to get brighter, twangier sounds?

Personally, I think the Hot for P may be what you're looking for if you're gonna use it for a bunch of diffrent styles of music unless you're looking for that vintage sound. The lightning Rods will also do what you're asking, however they will sound a bit more "modern".

I personally wouldn't bother with the series/parallel switch. it can make an alder body P Bass sound honkey.

I'd go with the SPB-3 Quarter Pound. It offers the most versatility in a passive P-Bass pickup -- plus it does punk and rock better than any other P-Bass pickup out there.

If you want even more versatility, go with the STC-2p Tone Circuits. You'll get two bands of active EQ plus the slap switch.
