help! which high output duncan has the most uniform mids?

I need a duncan that has the bass and treble above the mids and a high output and TIGHT.
the JB is great and tight but has a pronounced upper mid sound
the DD is mega mids and treble and too grindy
so what i am after is a pup that has the mids just a bit lower to the bass and treble? in other words very balanced like a paf.
from the tone chart there are two, the custom and custom 5?
the custom 5's mids look a bit too hollowed to be real musical sounding?

You dear sir are describing the Duncan Custom as if it was custom made just for you :)

yeah there are not really many models that put the mids below the bass/treble and still have a higher output.
most higher output pups has boosted mids
and the pu's with the balanced mids are lower output paf types

does the custom work in basswood?

The JB/Custom Hybrid with an A5 magnet combines the response of the JB and the Custom 5... I made a couple for forum members over the last few weeks... maybe they will chime in with their impressions.

The Custom works in everything :laugh2:
I have mine in a maple neck through guitar now (with an oversized magnet though) and it KICKS ASS. I liked it a lot in my Basswood guitar too. The only way I'd change it would be with a Distortion coil someday to see if I can get a more original tone. It may be a bit too midrangy for you, but you can always EQ it. I'd give it a try.

Buy a Custom and Custom 5, then return the one you liked least. Those are the 2 pickups you described. Only your ears can tell you which one works with your guitar/amp/hands.

Roadstar, didn't I tell you to get one of BTR's JB/C5 hybrids?!?! Come on dude, what are you waiting for?!

They're gonna have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.

I KNOW you're gonna love it. It's what you're looking for. And I should know, right? :laugh2:

If your guitar is not too bright the Screaming Demon has the balanced EQ you want , not as scooped as the Custom5 , less bass .
A bit like a Custom but with cleaner bass and less compression .

And what would he get instead the one he doesn't like?

I'd personally not recommend the C5 if you want the mids to be just *a bit* lower than the treble and bass, as it is VERY scooped.
