help wiring in a 59 in neck position

here is a wiring diagram for my guitar.

the 5-way goes from neck/neck-middle/middle/middle-bridge/bridge
The 59 i bought has 2 wires, a sheath and a hot black.
i grounded the sheath and put black where white was on the old pu.
here's the problem, no sound in neck position, neck-middle sounds like only middle pu.
before i take apart again would like input on how to wire it correctly. My only guess would be to try the hot where the red was prior.

That should work. It sounds like you did everything right. At this point, I'd just double-check everything. Make sure you didn't miss something silly.

In the mean time, I'll think about this and see if there's other possibilities.

yeah, i am getting a signal with the hot put where the red was prior, thanks for your thoughts Artietoo.
