That almost sounds like you are overdriving the input. Does it go away when you lower the pickup?

It's weird, because it's intermittent. It will be fine one minute and then I'll switch to a different pick-up or will adjust the tone or volume and it will start. Maybe it is the wiring.

No, it doesn't. The entire sound just gets softer. I lowered them as far as they can go and it is still there. Just softer.
