hi people! this is my first post
i have a big problem ,

i buy a very nice guitar
2 humbuckers
2 vol
1 tone
3 way toogle
and
1 dpdt swith

The Problem:
when i open the electronics cavity...ooops sorprise!
the 3 pots was a push/pull units

the wiring is dead... i see 5 cables desoldered.

i wanna re-wire
i like in on that way:
the 2 volume push/pull to split the PUs
the tone push/pull to reverse phase
and the dpdt switch to on/off a direct wire to the output (bypassing the circuit)

somebody can help me?

here is a picture of a similar guitar of mine

perillas+epiphone+genesis+knobs.jpg

Epiphone+Genesis+Custom+1980+Sunburst+(10).jpg

i take the idea from that site but the owner dont have the diagram.
i looking for for a diagram on the SD site but i cant find.

i hope somebody can help me.

thanks in avdance!

Welcome.
First of all, which pickups (maker/model) have your guitar (to map wire colors)?.

Re: HELP! wiring problem!! SD JB+Jazz + push/pull

I have not my drawing tool here (on holidays, for a while) but, the idea is:

Neck pickup
Run green and black wires to an out-of-phaser switch (look for some example on SD diagrams) under the tone's pot.
The signal output from this switch should be soldered to the input of the Neck Volume pot (not the switch under it!). The output of such a volume pot goes to one side of the 3-way toggle switch (pickup selector).
Bare wire (plate ground) should be always ground (to your common ground spot).
Solder together red and white wires to the splitter switch (see SD examples) under the neck volume pot.

Bridge pickup
Ground bare and green wires.
Solder together red and white wires to the splitter switch under the bridge volume pot.
Solder black wire to the input lug of the bridge volume pot (or to the switch first, if you want to split to screw coil instead, to have hum cancelling middle positions when both pickups are split).
Run output of the pot to the other side of the 3-way switch.

Run output of the 3-way to the tone pot and, from there to the jack.

If you wanted independent volume controls, be sure you use the central lug of your volume pots as input, instead of the extreme lug. That is, swap wires on those two signal lugs.
If you are left-handed, swap the wires on the extreme lugs of each pot (what is signal and what is ground).

Sorry, I can currently draw anything. Try it yourself and I can review/correct your diagram.

Re: HELP! wiring problem!! SD JB+Jazz + push/pull

ok thanks hermetico!!
I will try to understand what you wrote! :fingersx:
I was also researching on your site, you share very good information there!
I also found many diagrams on guitarelectronics.com
http://www.guitarelectronics.com/ca...ing_diagrams.2_pickup_guitar_wiring_diagrams/

but unfortunately not the one I seek :smack:

looking for the wiring diagram i find this video on YT ,
is almost exactly what I want!!!:biglaugh:

jump to 2:20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtvEHKQDMfE

the only difference is that my guitar has a single tone knob,
but i can use the mini switch to the bypass mode.
I have to investigate further ...

edit:
im here rigth now....

Re: HELP! wiring problem!! SD JB+Jazz + push/pull

Well this is the best I can do with my current tools:

White wires are represented as light blue.
Those uggly starts mean ground. All grounds must be soldered together, even that there are some grounds not represented here (bridge's ground, shielding ground, ...).

We have an issue, with a DPDT on/on toggle switch, I cannot remove the tone pot for the bypass option. We can do that if you use a 3PDT instead.
Maybe, ArtieToo or others can find a tricky way. I am not feeling strong enough with this ****ty tool to spend more time on this drawing.

I am sorry, I forgot to throw a "line" from the middle lugs of the 3-way to the upper right lug of the bypass switch. Can you please do it?.
One more thing, it's not clear to me how are you representing the pots, I suppossed you are seeing them from the bottom.
I didn't checked if the extreme lugs of the pots are the right ones (the output lug, in this case).
I am sorry, dude, I am in holidays and a bit lazzy.

This is the overall idea and, I hope some others can chime in and fix whatever I missed.

Hi Space; I got your PM. Hermy's got you mostly covered, but I don't understand this one line:

and the dpdt switch to on/off a direct wire to the output (bypassing the circuit)

Do you want one specific pickup to bypass all the switching and pot circuitry? For example, send the bridge pup direct to the output jack with no vol or tone control?

Could you clarify that, and I'll whip you up a diagram.

Artie

What I've understood is that the OP wants the output of the 3-way to bypass volume and tone controls but, maybe he wants a bridge-direct output, I dunno.

Re: HELP! wiring problem!! SD JB+Jazz + push/pull

Well, I am back home and, I've got my tools now.

This is the wiring that I've sketched above:

Hermetico's_HH_X58_SD.jpg

Here the link to the corresponding entry in my blog: http://hermeticoguitar.blogspot.com.es/2012/10/wiring-diagram-epiphone-genesis-custom.html

And, now, if you just wanted a "Direct Bridge" mod instead, this is the right design:

Hermetico's_HH_X59_SD.jpg

And the link to the blog's entry: http://hermeticoguitar.blogspot.com.es/2012/10/wiring-diagram-epiphone-genesis-custom_9.html

I hope any of those is what your were looking for.

Re: HELP! wiring problem!! SD JB+Jazz + push/pull

thak again guys!

HERMETICO you was make a great job man!! I will always be indebted to you.

ok let me explain again my idea, (not my idea really i take it from a blog)

i wanna wire the guitar on that way:

1- split each pickup with the 2 volumes push/pulls

2- dual reverse phase (both pickups) with the tone push/pull

3- dual by-pass (both pickups) with the DPDT swicth
i wanna use de bypass mode like a "little booster" for solos.

is possible??

thanks!!
