Help with coil tap switch wiring!

Hey guys. I am restoring a Custom Shop Set Neck HSS Strat from scratch as I got it with no pups or electrics. I am using two Fender Single coils and a SD 59 trembucker. I have wired up using the SD HSS with one vol, one tone and 5 way using the diagram on this website being careful to swap the green and black wires. My question is regarding coil tapping the humbucker. I have a two position stand alone mini switch which has six little prongs on its base. What is the right way to wire it as a coil tap?. At the moment I have the red and white wires from the Duncan joined together and attached to one of the middle two prongs. I guess this is not right as it does not seem to do much. I say guess because I don't have the tuners yet so am just tapping the pick ups with a screwdriver whilst moving the 5 way. The bucker seems to have both coils on in either position of the mini switch. Would be grateful for help from you knowledgeable types

If you mean split (not tap) then you need to ground the lower lug of the miniswitch, otherwise the coils are both still working and the signal of one coil isn't being cancelled.

Yes, I mean split, so only one coil is connected to give a better quack in the bridge / middle notch position. So I need to run a wire from the lower lug to ground on the back of a pot?. I'll try that, thanks!. It kind of indicates that on the diagram but as that was a push/pull pot I thought it was different. I'm pretty clueless at this kind of stuff and am surprised I have got this far without totally stuffing it up.

The switch is entirely separate to the pot, it just happens to be operated by the shaft.

When the switch is in the "up" position, it shunts the red and white wires to ground leaving only the black wire/slug coil active. Thus, it "splits" your humbucker to only one of its coils.

OK, now I get it. I have connected the switch to ground and it seems to cut out one of the coils now. The tuners should be here any day now then I can finally get some strings on it and see what it sounds like!. Thanks for putting me right.
