Looks a lot like oak, but it's a very tight-grained ash. Definitely not birch.

Oak and hard ash can be a little hard to distinguish... but they both are pretty easy to distinguish from swamp ash and sen, simply by weight.

Oak and hard ash *weigh*.

The early Ibanez DT50's were actually specified as "Basswood & Birch" with Maple necks in the advertisements, if I recall. Another cool fact: A blue Ibanez DT50 was actually my first electric guitar! What color is yours?

Like i said blue. hehe I still have the original pups. basswood and birch? Hows that work?
