I want to try making my own cables i was wondering where the best place to find all the stuff i need would be. and what kind of cable and plugs is the best.

Re: help with making cables

Try G&H Industries for the jacks. I think these are the best I have seen. You say why? These 1/4 inch jacks have pure copper all the way thru and there is no better conducter than copper without getting to expensive. You will find these jacks only on the best cords. As far as cord look for the lowest capacitance as possible. When you find the best cord let me know so far what I have found is Gepco International with a capacitance of 32pf/ft. I am also looking for the best cord. So far I came up with Magami,Voodoo,Pro co Defender about $75.00 cord, and possibly top of the line Whirlwind. The only one that list the capacitance spec is Magami with a little over 39pf/ft.All of these cords listed can come with G&H Industries jacks. I have not done a listening test to any of these but if anybody else has please let us know. Bobby, http://xlr8rocks.com/Rob's%20Equipment.htm

Re: help with making cables

many people use neutrik jacks on everything, me included... theyre widely available and pretty much unbreakable :burnout:

Re: help with making cables

Yea, neutrik probably holds the cord together better, but what about the pure copper content,is there copper in the neutrik with gold plating I dont know? If so it would be the better connector. Has anybody compared a mogami cord with a george L's.

Re: help with making cables

nothing looks like its made of copper on neutriks its solid stainless steel or something i think, they sound fine to me though.. i think its because copper is a) softer and b) more tarnishable... i'll take a slight loss of quality if it lasts as long as neutriks do :)

First, the resistance difference between copper and brass (most plugs are made of plated brass) is pretty negligible. Even if the difference was as much as a couple ohms (and it's not), it wouldn't make a sonic difference that anyone could notice.

The bulk of a cable's tonal coloration is due to capacitance, not resistance. That capacitance comes from the wire, not the plugs so there's not much point in worrying about a plug's impact on tone. As long as the plug is reliable and convenient (e.g., not too bulky), I'm not so inclined to think about 'em.

Re: help with making cables

yea, im the same - if it don't break, i'll take it. not having to worry about your lead cutting out is a lovely thing, no matter what it sounds like :laugh2:
