Of all the things EMG does, their singles are the best they'll ever achieve. If you can't get those to sound good, the problem is you.

Stag Mag wired to a spin a split wired control. That let's you control the volume of 1 of the coils from 10 (full volume) down to 0 (shutting off that coil). You can tweak the sound to get what you're wanting to hear, but basically "1" on the volume knob is going to give you a single coil sound without the noise.
