Help with pickup Identification

I bought this guitar loaded with Duncan PUs. The neck is an SSL-2, the bridge is a JBjr, but the middle has no ID. Can someone identify it for me and tell me if it should be moved to the neck position? Also would be helpful to know the correct wiring diagram for these pickups on 5 way. Thanks in advance!image1.jpgIMG_6992.jpg

Re: Help with pickup Identification

I'm wondering if someone has just stuck a duncan cover on a non Duncan pickup there.

And there is no 'correct' wiring for such a setup until we know what you want the wiring to accomplish

Re: Help with pickup Identification

Wow, could be! I couldn’t find any Duncan pickups that looked like it. As far as wiring, I just want normal Strat wiring with the JB jr to split in 4th position. I’m noticing that when in positions 1,3 and 5, I’m getting some sound out of the other pickups. Thinking it’s wired wrong or the switch is just junk. It’s a MIM Strat, but I’ve never encountered them bleeding like they do.

Re: Help with pickup Identification

The bleeding is odd. The switch may indeed have a small connection that is being made globally. If its an older MIM then maybe an upgrade to a switchcraft could be a wise move at this point.

The standard 3 singlecoil diagram will give you where almost every connection should be soldered. For the bridge you will need to see how a strat with autosplit humbuckers deals with the bridge pickup connections.

Re: Help with pickup Identification

Any advice on a single coil to compliment the SSL-2? And is the SSL-2 a good choice for middle pickup? Thinking about swapping them. Would be helpful if I knew what pickup was in the middle currently. I guess that will be a mystery. It doesn’t sound bad whatever it is, and has an output of 6.9

Re: Help with pickup Identification

Another SSL-2 is great with the one you have. A Five Two is another great choice. Both are great as middle pickups.

Re: Help with pickup Identification

The middle pickup is an OEM with a Duncan cover. If you're only using positions 2 and 4 then having a stock pickup in the middle may not make much difference.
