Help With Pups....

I have recently been given a epiphone les paul standard for christmas and i am thinking about changing the pups for it. Would the Burstbuckers 1 and 3 be suitable for the les paul and would they make a big difference.

Re: Help With Pups....

They would improve the sound, definately. Another thing to consider is changing out the stock pots and switch with CTS components. This should also help with the sound quality and give you a good base for further mods.

BTW, if you're going for the PAF sound from your Paul, I'd personally go with Duncan's Pearly Gates set, 59 set or Seth Lover set. They'll be just as good as the Gibson pickups (better if you ask me :) ) and are usually less expensive. :burnout:

Re: Help With Pups....

I've wired 2 LPs with a Custom Custom & Pearly Gates combination, with coil-tapping. They both sound great, though the 96 is considerably brighter than the 84.

Don't forget to shield the heck out of it while you're in there!

Re: Help With Pups....

Ive got a Schecter C1+ and I'm thinking of putting a EMG81 in the bridge and a EMG89 in the neck...
Supposedly the 89 is an 85 when used as a humbucker, but then you can split it into a singlecoil for clean sound...
Splitable volume and tone controls are included with the 89.

Re: Help With Pups....

Lots of pickups mentioned in this thread already. There are loads of good options out there, it all depends on what sound you want to achieve.

For example, someone going by the name of SlashRules might want to consider the Alnico II Pro humbuckers. Those are what Mr Hudson uses. ;)

Re: Help With Pups....

Yeah, the sound quality definately improves with pickup changes in an epi (like my studio), Simon is right, maybe if you are tending towards slash tone, then Alnico II pro humbuckers may be what you are looking for! BTW, thats one awsome christmas present (i had to buy my epi myself :( )

Slash Uses some fishman thing as well, what is it? Is ita bridge or something

That's for his acoustics. In his LP's, it's nothign but the Alnico II Pro set. :burnout:

Re: Help With Pups....

If you want Slash, don't go with active pickups. I'm not gonna trash Gibson pickups, as I like some of them, but the prices on them are rediculous. The Duncans cost less, are easier to resell if you don't like them, and besides, if a set of AII Pros is good enough for Slash... :D

Would the Alcino pro II be able to achieve a good metal sound as well?

That depends on your amp. If you have a really hot and or a good rig, you wont have any problem. I have aph's in my epi goldtop and I can get slash sounds, and I can crank the gain and get metal.

I see you have the best guitar player of all time as your avatar!!! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Help With Pups....

I am tempted also but, I dont much like that brown finish. I have not really seen slash play that color. I have always seen him with a Cherry sunburst, goldtop, honey burst or something like that.
