Help with Strat

Hi All!

Have an EVH on the way for my ESP 62 reissue Strat; at the moment I have Texas Specials in the neck and middle - not sure if those would be good choice to mix with the EVH. I keep thinking about a comment Gearjonser made "SRV to VH in one guitar", that would pretty much what I would want out of a #1 - can that be done with what I have? If not, what would be a better balance? I was thinking APS-2s or Fender Fat 50s, more the Duncan as I dont want phase/wiring issues... Other option is a Cool or Vintage Rail in the neck and no middle - that way I could run both to 500K volume and maybe no tone...

I have had this Strat forever and have tried ALL kinds of combos in it - seemed the best when I had a FRED in the bridge, a 57/62 middle, and a HS-2 neck. I think the EVH will be perfect in the bridge - now I just have to sort out the other 2 positions! Will be playing thru a Crate V58 (minimal pedals involved) or the Vox DA5 I just got - DAMN nice amp by the way, didnt think the MicroCube would be beat but the Vox does :13:

Anywho, any help/suggestions/advise would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Re: Help with Strat

I think you'd like the APS-2s. They have alnico 2 magnets, like the EVH. I think that would give them similar EQs.

You didn't say what you like/ don't like about the Texas Specials, but just FYI, the SSLs are better for that tone, IMO.

Re: Help with Strat

Good suggestion - Lew had suggested APS-2s earlier as that is what Jeff Beck used back in the day...

The Texas Specials are just hard to EQ when mixed with anything other than a Pearly Gates Plus - even that was a bit of work... I have had an Air Zone and a JB in there and if you get the bridge dialed, the TS sound all muddy. So, it's tricky to switch the selector, the volume, and the tone all at once - guess I need a refresher knob-spinner class at Strat Player U.

So, something that is closer to EVH in EQ and brightness that would allow pickup changes on the fly without a lot of adjusting. l like going from crunch or lead on the bridge to clean or twang on the neck or middle. Maybe just chuck the singles and go "one-bucker" :) but I like the idea of a #1 that can do it all...

Thanks for the reply!
