Help with tonewoods.

I'm ordering a usa CG and I cant decide which wood combo

1. Carved top Alder Strat (1piece body) + maple, indian rosewood neck

2. Carved top Mahog Strat with maple cap + mahog, braz rosewood neck.

3. Carved top Mahog Strat with maple cap + maple, indian/braz rosewood neck.

I'm using a vintage 6-hole trem (LR Baggs x-bridge) and either H-s-s or H-s-J pickup routing withgrover locking machines.

I'm looking for a warm transparent cleans and chunky distortion. I play any thing from jazz to metal.

Which number should I choose?

I did.

He said that for an all round guitar thats better for the back he would recommend alder ,maple neck + indian rosewood.

He also said that if he was geting a mahogany body he would get a mahogany neck and brazilian rosewood fretboard because "the tone is to die for".

Can you see why I can't make up my mind?

Re: Help with tonewoods.

I think lightweight is more important than the wood type.

Personally, I think swamp ash sounds better than alder if that piece of swamp ash is lighter and more resonant than a particular piece of alder.

And vice versa: alder will likely sound better than swamp ash if that particular piece of alder is lighter and more resonant than a particular piece of swamp ash.

I'm not a fan of fancy maple tops on Fender style guitars.

The maple top on Les Pauls is to brighten up the mahogany body...it's not needed (or desirable) on a Strat or Tele style guitar, IMO.

So no one's going for mahogany?

Just forget for a second that the guitar is a strat shape.
