Help with treble bleeds

Hello,

I have a 3 pickup Epiphone lespaul which I had modified (by a pro) years ago to Chang ethe pickups to:

Dimarzio super distortion in bridge
Gibson p94 in middle
Dimarzio super distortion wired in parallel in neck

The wiring was also changed to have 3 independent volume controls and a master tone

Switching changed to:
Treble position is bridge pickup
Middle position all pickups
Rythem position neck and middle

I recently added a treble bleed to the neck pickup with good results
I then went to a cap to the middle pup volume control and it somehow bypassed the neck treble bleed (solo treble was not retained) and added no volume retention to the middle pup. Any ideas why that might happen?

I am tempted just to re wire the whole thing but before I do that I want to hear the p90 with a treble bleed. At the minute it feels like there’s a treble loss and it’s fairly “woman tone” on the neck and middle pups anyway. Unfortunately I didn’t take any sound clips before I started soldering so that might be in my head!

Thanks for your help

Re: Help with treble bleeds

Unfortunately I can’t help you with the wiring but you might consider using 50’s style wiring. It would likely eliminate the need for a treble bleed. To my ears, it’s a much more natural sound than a TB and still retains the highs. I’ve tried it both ways and I’ll use the 50’s style from here on out.

Re: Help with treble bleeds

Hi,

Thanks, didn't know about 50's wiring, very interesting reading about it. Not sure if its going to give me what i want but may play around with it.

Regards

Re: Help with treble bleeds

Could you kindly post a diagram for the 50's style you speak of? Thanks

Re: Help with treble bleeds

Sorry it took me so long to get back on this.

Modern tone wiring has the input of the volume pot going to the tone pot with the output lug of the vol pot going to the jack.
For 50's wiring you just move the wire to the tone pot from the vol pot's input lug to the output lug.

Here's a diagram that shows modern tone wiring (I couldn't find one for 50's). But you can easily see that to change it to 50's, all you have to do is change the wire to the tone pot from the input (left) lug of the volume pot to the output (middle) lug of the vol pot. Everything else stays the same.

Re: Help with treble bleeds

Here's what I have for 50's wiring, it doesn't address the 3-humbucker situation but it does show the tone lugs switched around:

Maybe this helps..
