Help!!!!!!!

Hey Guys, I hope that I'm in the correct room for this question. I have a Mesa Boogie Mark I running through a Mesa Theile cab, guitar Les Paul. My bottom end is very flabby and not tight. In fact in general my tone is very nice and round, so much so that I can't even use my neck or middle postion because they will not cut through on stage. My treble is on 7 (from 1-10) bass and mid on 2 or 2 1/2 ( from 1-10 ). I realize that the Theile cab is a closed back with ported front so it is bassy. I wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on maybe getting a cab with V-30's if that would tighten up my low end and just using the Mark I as a head instead of a combo? By the way my Mark I is off of the ground and that is what is being miked. Thanks RG

Re: Help!!!!!!!

Try a tube swap, or maybe check the wiring in your guitar. You should defiantly get more treble than that.

Re: Help!!!!!!!

Could be your Theile cab... ported front... does that mean the speaker is blocked, and firing into the baffle?

Well, there's your problem!

A Boogie Mark I in good shape should have no problems with brightness or 'cutting' through a loud band. Not at all.

Re: Help!!!!!!!

I'm no amp tech, but how long has it been since you've had a check up? I've heard that when you need new filtering caps your tone can go down the drain. I've also heard that filtering caps are supposed to be changed on a somewhat regular basis (every ten years?) so if you have the originals in there, that might be a problem. I'd wait for a more experienced forumite though, because I'm obviously not confident to say anything more certain than hearsay.

Re: Help!!!!!!!

a flabby bottom could be power tubes. how old are they?

Re: Help!!!!!!!

Have you had this problem long? Or is the gear new to you? Did it sound good to begin with? I have to say that I've had "issues" with Mesa's cabs being VERY dark and VERY directional, but to be fair... never flabby! What I always found strange was my 2 x 12 Recto and Trad 4 x 12 were soild and well made and yet never cut through the mix. To hear my sound in isolation was great, when I played in a live situation it just got lost no matter how I adjusted my EQ etc. As soon as I got shot of them and got other cabs... no problem?? Have you tried another cab?
