Help !!

Ok, so I have a Charvel soloist with emg pickups and a Randall RG 100 ss head. The other day when I started playing, the clean channel had a huge volume cut, and both gain channels sounded like a clean channel with some dirt (I normally play thrash metal, so I use a lot of gain). I checked to see if it was a battery issue and i found that a wire for the batteries had come loose. I had it resoldered, but the amp still is doing the same thing. I have tried it with three different cables and it does the same thing with each, so I believe it is a problem with my amp. Does anyone know what happened to it?

Re: Help !!

No, I put a brand new one in yesterday. I called the tech who did it, he said he played it through an amp and it sounded fine, so I'm pretty sure it's my own amp

Re: Help !!

My Digitech rack units have done this over the years. Apparently, something on the board has gone wonky. I'd get the "half clean/half distorted" sound on every patch, with and without chorus/flange and delay/reverb.

I really did like the distorted tone, too, and wanted to keep it but lose the clean  Sadly, when I got it back, that ultra-smooth shredtastic distortion was gone :D

Re: Help !!

an RG 100es head?
.. do you have the sustain boost engaged.. mine broke years ago and i just never got around to fixin it.. not sure if its a component that died or the switch.. it used to give me a fluctuating volume and sound similar to what your describing.. eventually ill get around to fixing it

Re: Help !!

No, it's the newer one, the rg1003h. And I haven't tried it with another guitar, although the same guitar has been put through another amp and it sounded fine

well.. its the amp then

thought it was a newer amp.. sounds like a component died in the amp.. to be sure try the amp with another guitar if possible.. my rg100es is 26 years old and been in the shop just once and that cost $80..it needs a tad bit of work but for the most part, but i can do that myself.. just minor stuff like swapping out a speaker and footswitch jack

gl on getting the problem rectified
