I once knew a bassist who used these Hennessy brand strap locks. They worked, I remember putting the strap onto the locking mechanism was a pain in the ass because the strap's hole was way too small for the thing, and also, you tighten it with your hand.

Based on that, I don't recommend them.

I had dunlop strap locks for a while. I liked them, they never failed on me. What I didn't like was how removing the lock from the strap was a royal pain in the ass, and it seemed like every time I took the strap off the button I was degrading the lock and it was never as safe as it felt the first time I threw it on. (the functionality of the lock was probably fine, I just never got over having to use pliers to take the ring off, it felt like the ring got weaker somehow and I hated how it sometimes bent slightly out of shape).

I now use Schaller. the lock goes on your strap with a nut, what I did was find the right size wrench for the nut. Installation and re-installation is a piece of cake, all I do is use the wrench to loosen the nut, then tighten onto the new strap. it's also less likely to fail and make you drop your instrument since the lock itself is a U shape, gravity prohibits your guitar from leaving the lock even if it opens, since the pressure holds it in the U.

I am now back with DiMarzio. Safe, easy to install.

Strap lock rattling can be cured by installing felt washers on the strap button to eliminate any play between the cup and body.

I just recently switched to locking buttons, I bought Fenders, they are okay, but I still can't decide if I like them or not. It definitely 'adds' to the appearance, both in a negative and positive sense. I am just happy I only paid like $10 for them and didn't opt for EB, Dunlop or Schaller that are at least twice the price.

I use these. I have been using these for several years now & they work really well. Technically they don't "lock" the strap on but it does a real good job at keeping the strap on. Now if you are running around the stage doing flips and stuff well maybe this isn't the best. I have these on two or three of my Strats, my 359, and a few others & I have never had a strap come loose.

Just use some metal washers and those straps won't be going anywhere. I've never tried the Dunlop stuff, but the Schaller stuff was bulky and goofy looking and I didn't like the way it rattled from side to side - it made me nervous.

I had a set of Schallers once (the big chess-piece looking ones) and did not trust their appearance. The cup that slid around the strap pin could rotate, as well as the fact you had a half-inch or more of space between the body of the guitar and the strap. Seems to me there was too much pressure at the end of a screw that was only 1/2" into the wood. Great if you're Buddy Holly and don't tilt the neck up into playing position.

I liked the Dunlops that came with my Charvel ProMods, and while installing them on leather-tabbed straps was a pain, they felt solid. I did have my concerns about a 1/4" plug with a micro-ball - I've got a ton of cheap screwdrivers with that same system and they fail after a week.

And they're not meant to be removed frm the strap. Once that lock washer goes on, you better like the color of that strap.

And when you sell the guitar, be nice and include the strap, like I did :lol:

But nothing beats the DiMarzio cliplock. If you bash the buckle with a hammer, yeah it's gonna crack and fail. Break the arms off the clip, then don't expect it to hold up. If you're always in/out/off/on, expect the hooks to wear down.
Put it on, leave it on, only unclip it if you have to (not WANT, but HAVE TO), and it will last forever. I've got one that's 25 years old, and it still locks just as good as when it was new.

I used the GFS version of those on a guitar. Never had a problem. I did put a pressure washer on the top before putting the thumbscrew on. Kept it tight.

I can't live with a guitar strap that I can't remove whenever I want. I've been using Schallers and Dunlops for years without a problem. If you can't handle checking to make sure they're locked, every time, they're not for you.

Just use a beer bottle cap for a strap lock. You make a hole in it the size of the screw, put it over the button assembly, and screw in everything with the cap on top. Costs nothing, and your strap WILL NOT come off.
