+1. One of the world's great guitars. Why isn't Gibson making the original SG Classic and distributing it everywhere? And why isn't Epiphone and other import manufacturers making P-90 SG's? They really overdo HB's.

Because... Humbucker became a [forgive the pun] Buzz word for 'Cool' to the un-initiated!

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

You know, maybe it's only becaue Angus Young and 2 short players here that sport an SG but in my mind this guitar is made for short people.

Might not apply to Townsend or Iommi that look relatively tall but I still think of it as the short people instrument...

Weird. This is the second time I've heard this on the forum. I've never associated the SG with short people or as a short person's instrument.

Same thing with the "the SG has a thin body and 'thin' tone"... After hearing an SG, I don't understand how anyone can describe an SG as 'thin in tone'...

The only thing that comes to my mind is, "Crushing guitar BITE"...

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I think people who like the tone call it "biting," and people who don't call it "thin." I love my SG. Guess what I call it.

Dull and Muddy comes to mind of the ones I've played! Complete opposite of a Tele say.

Not that I dislike that completely, but that's what comes to my mind!

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

Wow, necro post! But I missed it first time around so I'll join in...

I voted Tele. SG is weighted all wrong, doesn't sit right over my shoulders, and doesn't look nice to my eyes. A good sounding SG is pretty damn good though.

The Telecaster just covers more bases in my opinion. As others have said in the right hands a Telecaster sounds amazing. It can growl and snarl, it can have bite, it can be thick and warm, it can be twangy and ballsy.

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I've had my tele Am standard for years. I recently picked up one of the older SG special faded models used. To compare the two is difficult. Both have their uses.. I will say.. I was surprised at how much I like the way the SG sounds and plays. Very comfortable guitar, but some of that may be the worn finish....

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

Leo had it perfect the first time....best guitar for the bucks ever! You can never go wrong with a Tele. IMO

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I'll take the Tele and a brown paper sack for $500, Alex...

SG's - Never excited me.

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

There is nothing thin about my SG. That being said I own 2 Teles. If I was stuck on a desert island and could only have one, I would pick the SG.

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I've owned 1 tele, Am Std, didn't get along with it.
Traded it for an SG Std:D

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

I had an SG and a Tele. Just sold my tele this week. It's a nice tone, but not MY tone. Also, I can never get along with the bridge, the knobs and the switch.

It's funny someone mentioned, but I'm a short guy with small hands and really like the playability of the SG. Maybe it has something to do with that.

It's the 'Angus Factor.'

Re: Here we go again...Sg vs telecaster

SG all the way! In fact, I'll take an SG over an LP, strat, or anything else for that matter, but I am biased since the SG is my all time favorite guitar.
