Here we have the evolution of a song...come and watch it grow!

Here's a little tune that's been occupying my time for the last few days.

It's not finished yet, but I thought it would be kinda cool to do an evolutionary thread. It all started with a simple chord progression on a synth in Cubase and grew from there.

The guitar bit in there is horribly sloppy and will be re-done. The extended section with the drums and the bass groove is going to be a multi-layered bridge section. Got some ideas that I'm currently working on for it.

No electric guitars, bass, or vocals are recorded yet.

For now:

To come: My Schecter Loomis 7-string through my new POD X3 live, and vocals with a Shure SM7b.

Edit: Added new version with guide guitar tracks. These will get re-done once the bass is laid down:

Edit: added a new version once again. Made a few small edits, got bass in there, still with scratch tracks. Next step is recording the *real* guitars.

I hvnt heard a new song from you in awhile. electronica no less!! it sounds good d00d keep itz up. ur obviously pretty talentedz. acoustic obviously does not fit but you made it that way so its pretty intersting.

Re: Here we have the evolution of a song...come and watch it grow!

Thinkin of ways to meld that part in a little better, actually. I want it to be abrupt, but cool. Ya dig?

I'm thinkin I'm gonna speed the whole thing up about 10bpm as well. It's at 130 right now, bumpin it up to 140 makes those beats pop a bit more. 'cept the double bass MIGHT be a lil too fast in the beginning.

Anyways, I'm gettin her ready for electrics. Gonna be doing a clean signal and re-amping with POD farm on this one. Using the seven string, dropping the B and E down a full step, so it's ADADGBe. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the bass on the low notes, I only got a four string these days. Might just do unison, see how it works.

Still want to add a lot of noise layers to the track as well. Random little tidbits, ya know.

Surprisingly enough, I've almost got the lyrics done. how about that.

My goal with this song is to write and record a complete song from beginning to end. I haven't done that in a very long time...since high school, actually.

So, whatever, go with the flow, see what happens, see where it takes me. Once this one's done...I plan on writing a few more, and making an EP out of it.

Updated with a new version, sped up 5 bpm with guide guitar tracks!

Re: Here we have the evolution of a song...come and watch it grow!

Thanks!

Workin on the bass right now. I'd really like to keep it all fingers...no pick. But I just don't have the chops with my right hand to keep up those 16th notes on the little intro riff. Had forgotten how much I enjoy playing bass. Thinkin I'm gonna make it a little funky, a little groovy.

Turning out to be a fun project, I got the lyrics all finalized too. I think. I can never be totally sure...might make a few changes here and there.

Bump, new version added!

Still a rough mix, of course. Made a bunch of edits, added bass.

the acoustic guitar sounds good now, sounds like its in the right place since you added guitars and bass. Your a talented musician dude! keep it up in a positive and constructive manner. Makes me gas for a computer and wanna start recording again!

Aye, almost forgot that it's got lyrics now!

Got a ****ing music video idea for it as well...think it's pretty bad-ass. Not like it's ever gonna get made :laugh2:

Alien Nation

She only comes when I tie her hands
Twist my toungue, I am but a man
I find her hard to resist, it's true

She cuts herself on the bed
With lips painted a viral red she said
"It's good to finally meet you"

So I'll count the hours
As long as you count the days

I need some power
I can't control the rage

I fear that all I know
Is the pain that I've disowned
Reveries, all carved in stone

So alien are you
So every way I lose
So I take myself away from you

I'll count the hours,
As long as you count the days
I'll count the hours,
As long as you count the days away

Truth told, I'm having difficulty deciding between two lines in that second stanza. Either "With lips painted a viral red she said", or "With lips painted in viral hues she said". I'll record both and see which one I like more, I guess.

That mellotron's probably going to get cut...there's gonna be some multi-layered vocals doing the same melody in a "Na na nah, na na nah nah" thing...probably with a vocoder in the mix as well. Gonna mix in some other melodies as well, just to make the whole bit a huge wall of sound. After that, it'll be a guitar solo...but I'm not sure if I should take care of it myself, or get my buddy from my old band to come in and shred over it. He's a bit more skilled than I am, truth told.

We'll see, we'll see...I *really* wanna get toontrack's electronic EZX! I'm thinking I might just end up using the built-in cubase drums to beef up the kick in the verses. I want the verse to be almost danceable...sultry, sweaty, all the good stuff.
