I signed up for this forum a long time ago, asked one question, got a bunch of answers, said thank you and then left. I see "last time signed on" was 1/15/05. So it was a long time ago. I have an Epiphone LP Standard in ebony all stock and I wanted to change the pickups in it a year or so ago. People reccomended the Jazz in the neck, JB bridge. It just never happened. I guess I forgot about it. My dad didnt really want me to do it because it would "mess up the guitar" blah blah blah. He doesnt like tweaking stuff, but he didnt mind that much. Point is, I never did it.
Now, about 3 months ago, I got a Gibson R7 Goldtop and the thing is absolutely sick. Goodbye Epiphone, Im not playing that thing again. Problem is that the guitar is in relatively good shape (except a white scratch on a headstock and the of course usuall scratches on the body that are simply unavoidable, but it looks good when I wipe it down with a good Fender polish cloth) and the neck is actually really good. The stock pickups do not have any soul though and the pots and switch suck (might do a mod on those too, but I doubt it). I wanted to get some pickups that were great for blues, but mostly great for metal or hard rock (like metallica metal). So I decided to go with the Pearly Gates in the neck - I love a great PAF, but one souped up with some extra gain and extra bite, ill take it. Then I seen that it was a good match with the SH-11 Custom Custom. I researched that and it said it was like another PAF style thing but added gain and mids and the treble was a little shaved off (I like my tone dark BTW) and it was high output. Great. I decided to get them both, wrote that down with the colors and stuff that I wanted, brought it to my local shop and told him what I wanted. (PG neck zebra, SH11 bridge reverse zebra).
Just cant wait til the pickups come in (he had to order them). I think he screwed up the order by just getting two Pearly Gates (neck and bridge) the neck zebra the bridge reverse zebra. Id just tell him to get the other one, pay the freight, I really dont care. I gotta be nice to the guy because he is gonna put the pickups in (for free which is sweet) and hes gonna give the guitar a set-up and probably give my Goldtop a set-up (the strings started to buzz when I put a new set on it and I really dont want to mess with it because the action is perfect). So, just wanted to share my little story.
