Hey Lew! How about a review on them Ant II Surfers?

Re: Hey Lew! How about a review on them Ant II Surfers?

I currently play a Music Man Albert Lee. It's loaded with Alnico 2 Pro Flats, and the bridge pickup has a small baseplate attached. I like the sound of the guitar (especially the bridge), but I'd like a little more low end BONK outta the bridge pickup and more clarity on the neck pickup. I tried Rio Grande Tallboys neck and middle and a Stelly bridge and was pretty unimpressed. They sucked all of the chime and sweetness out of the guitar. For clean Fender country-type stuff, would you recommend these pickups? I'm especially interested in how the bridge pickup sounds. Is it midrangy or just strong and clear?

Thanks Lew. You're a hell of a resource.

Thanks! A2 pickups seem to have softer, less defined bass...less snap. Yes, the Ant II's could be just what the doctor ordered for your ax. The bridge Ant II has plenty of output and a great tone...whereas a month ago the Antiquity Texas Hot Custom Bridge was my favorite Strat bridge pickup, now it's the Ant II Custom bridge pickup: more bottem and more highs and plenty of quack to the mids.
