Hi Dave & all,,, on the STK-S4, 7, & 9'S for an SSS Strat, with the 4's in the middle & neck, is the 9 really over the edge when it comes to maintaining the best Strat authenticity in a hum-free setup? Someone here recently said that the 9's are really out of the ballpark, but in a good way..... For classic rock sounds w/Fendery roots, & for someone used to 30+ years of the 'large & in charge' HB Rhythm (some lead), would the 7 in the Bridge be enough of a bumped up attitude with the 4's in N&M? I like the sound profile of the 7 over that of the 9... So, chime in everyone... I need to make a move
thnx in advance ॐ

For the most Fendery, Stratty sound, I'd go with an all STK-S4 setup. If you want a beefier bridge, I agree, the S7 is a better choice than the S9, as it is closer to a traditional sound, without the crazy mids of the S9.

i love thw stks4 n & m with the stks7 in the bridge, but its not super hot and still sounds very stratty. the stks4b and stks7 arent that far apart in output, but there is a definite tonal difference. the stks9 is significantly higher output and has a ton more mids. its great with overdrive but isnt as stratty sounding

Thnx Mince & Jer,,, since I took up on Dave's similar concept, & I now use a 4-way switch, ditched the
trad. #3 & 4 sounds, I now go B-BM-BN-N, 1 Vol,
1 Tone.... Would the '9' (w/4/4) totally wreck any chances at any or all BM & BN snap? If so, I like the dual purpose p'guard, so to speak, for a hot lead & hopefully pretty mixed positions...!!

My suss is that the 7 in the Bridge (w/4/4) might very well allow me some more funky quack in the notches pos's??,, but Jeremy, you say it won't truly offer a significant/sufficient kick in output...?? I realize DC K doesn't tell the whole story, but the 7 is pretty much hotter than most pups I own,,,, but if the sweeter & not too dark BM & BN pos's are the takeaway w/the 7/4/4,, then me thinks I'm good...
thnx for your continued assistance & experiences...
& I'm truly looking forward to my next changing of the guard!!

the 9 doesnt lend itself to snap, the 7 will lend itself to snap better for sure. the stks4n sounds great in the neck. the stks4b sounds rolled off on the high end when i used it in the neck position, but that little roll off works well in the bridge. for me, the extra bottom and mids from the 7 get me where i wanna be. and there is a bit more output than the stsk4b, but not a lot

I agree with jeremy. The 7 in the bridge is a better match with the 4s, and isn't as thick.

(Still repeating myself) I have an LTD ST-213 swamp ash strat copy with STK-S4 neck and STK-S7 bridge (no middle). It's an incredible set for blues/rock. The STK-S7 is not equal in output volume compared to its DC output as it's a stacked pickup. Since it's been designed for bridge, it's very well balanced with a STK-S4 neck/middle. I also used to only play with humbucker in the briege but this STK-S7 was a smooth transition and really what I was looking for in a "hot" strat.
