Hey Thrash Metal players!!!- try this...

If you like a thrash metal "Ride the Lightning" kind of tone, try this and let me know me what you think: LOWER YOUR BRIDGE PICKUP FAR FROM THE STRINGS  (& adjust your eq knobs alongside because it DRAMATICALLY changes the eq curve.) I think it will give you a richer, more crunchy attack from the metal strings & wood resonance.

Lately I've been playing with my three eq knobs on 5 or 6. But everytime I tried to redial the tone I had in these videos, it never sounded right.

In these videos, the treble & presence is around 90%, the mids aren't even at 15%, & the bass was never more than 35% because it sounded fake & "dialed in" to my ears.

But when I tried to recapture this tone, it didn't sound usable.
FINALLY, I remembered my high output pickups were screwed very far away from the strings- this made the difference- in bite, crunch, & chugg.

I imagine the pickup gets darker so you can use lots of high end, while the rest gets woodier, or more "acoustic" because the electromagnetic character is less up front. So def prepare to seriously tweak your bass & mid (probably down) and your treble & presence (probably up.) Also, once you do screw your pickup away from the strings, be sure to DRIVE your power tubes (to restore that mid "hump")

My rig is very unusual though so I can't assure this will work for others. That's why I'd be very curious to hear other folks' results.

Not sure how you reached those conclusions cuz in my experience, more distance from the strings = less interference of the magnetic field, therefore less voltage/current, less power, less beef. It ends up being cleaner, brighter, and lower output.

Crunchier, maybe, if you're talking about the brightness, but I don't get how dropping the pickup gave you more bass and a richer sound. That doesn't usually happen (unless you previously had it so high up that the field was choking the vibration of the strings due to magnetic pull)

Sounds kinda cool. I have to admit I don't agree with the majority of your statements but like you said, your setup is a bit unique.

Get a haircut. haha

Are you using a fathead II on the amp? They are a pretty dark mic, and your sound is pretty bright, so I can only imagine what it actually sounded like in the room.
