hh or hss

I'm looking for a new guitar. I like to play rock sometimes , but never emo. I like all the hendrix stuff and want to play that. What should my setup be.

Re: hh or hss

Hendrix played a strat so actually s-s-s would be in order, of course you could go s-s-h and split the bridge bucker...that would give you some versatility...!?

Re: hh or hss

One thing you might want to keep in mind that I ran into. I bought the Iron Maiden Strat since I wanted a strat with a Floyd Rose. My problem ended up being that I had to drop the middle pickup to be almost flush with the body since that's where I pick.

I like the HH configuration with the option to split both the neck and bridge pups. To me personally that's the best of both worlds.

Re: hh or hss

You can get a Strat that is routed for a humbucker in the bridge position, just in case you don't like that single coil sound after a time. For rock music, the Strat, with bladed pickups, can sound amazing. I know I love mine!!

Re: hh or hss

I'd reccomend a neck single coil if you wanna do some hendrix.

A H/S/S may be just right for you, because you could still get all of your rock tones out of the bridge humbucker and leave the two singles for your cleans.

Oh and high gain solo's don't sound too shabby on a neck single either... :D

Re: hh or hss

oops...i meant a hum bridge and single middle, single neck... :smack:

Re: hh or hss

h/s/s

yes, lower the middle as much as possible, here's why

you want bridge humbucker rockin sounds? you got em, the middle pickup won't be pullin down the strings

you want hendrix? go to the neck, you won't have the middle pup pullin down the strings

you wanna switch to a much lighter distortion? flip to the mid position, it'll be ridiculously clean compared to the other 2

Re: hh or hss

H-S-S... my favorite combination by far, especially with a blend pot instead of two tone controls.

You wanna rock? The humbucker in the bridge delivers.

Want that quack and super rich clean tones that only the strat delivers? The middle and neck give it in spades.

Want a jazz tone? or a thicker/fuller tone in the neck? Just blend the neck single with the bridge humbucker and you're all set.

Re: hh or hss

+1 to the HSS a lot of the time when you are playing rock you will be just playing the bridge HB for the neck singles always sounded better. You should try both before buying because in the end you are the one that is gonna be playing it. But the HSS does give more options on tone.

Re: hh or hss

not to mention quite a few strats are routed for h/s/h

you could always get one of those, and a new pickguard if you change your mind

Re: hh or hss

Alot of the newer Strats I'm seeing now are at least routed for HSS. My 2001 MIM is routed HSS and I'll probably go that route sometime in the near future. I didn't think I would of wanted to a few months ago but I recently put a Cool Rails into another Strat and the combo is just too killer for words. I'm sold on the HSS setup!

Re: hh or hss

h-h. I have a strat that's s-s-s, and it's fun to goof with, but doesn't compare to the 2 hum guitars. The neck single is okay, but I guess I just really prefer 'buckers :)

Re: hh or hss

I prefer 3 pickups whether it's H-S-S, S-S-S, or H-S-H

and HSS or HSH with a 5 way switch and a tone control will give you all the sounds you need.

hey, you're from florida, so is the band against me!, you should go see them, i think they have basement shows for like 50 cents

Re: hh or hss

One vote for the HSS.

Btw, I reckon a humbucker named "Holy Humbucker" would sell pretty well. It sounds awesome.

Re: hh or hss

Btw, when searching for single coils, remember some actually humbuckers in single coil housing.

Examples include: Hot Rails, Cool Rails, Vintage Rails, Lil '59, Lil Screamin' Demon, Jb Jr.

I myself have a HSS guitar but it's actually a HSH because I have a Distortion humbucker in the bridge and a Cool Rails humbucker in single coil housing in the neck, with a retarded stock Yamaha single in the middle position.
