HH wiring + Coil Split

Hi all,
I have a Fender Squire that I want to convert from SSS to HH.
It has the room for the Humbuckers, as in I dont need to router it (I dont think so anyway).

What I want to do is have it like a Gibson but I also want to be able to coil split the Humbuckers too.

Does someone have a wiring diagram and parts list I need to do the conversion?
Should I have 3-way switch with extra switches for the coil split or should I use a 6-way switch (3 for Humbuckers and 3 for coil splits)?
Any help with the easiest way to accomplish this without complicating the issue.

I am quite good with soldering and electronics, I just need some guidance please.

Re: HH wiring + Coil Split

I haven’t seen a 6-way blade switch that would do what you’re asking for... and I’ve looked within the last few months. In fact, the only 6-way blade I could find was the Electroswitch 52052 which won’t do it. If you know of another, though, I’d be interested in checking it out for an HSH project I’m working on. And, of course, if it would work for your needs, I’d be happy to set you up with a diagram for using it.

Personally (whether the 6-way is available or not) I would use a 3-way switch and push-pull(s) for your coil splits. You can do one that splits both p’ups simultaneously or one for each p’up (I’m assuming you have a one volume and two tones). I just find it much easier to think in terms of HH with a 3-way switch... but that’s me.

I've done it with positions 2 & for being inner coils and outer coils, but it requires a Super Switch and flipping the magnet of one pickup. You can also use a 3 way switch, with 1 push/pull to split both at once.

The only one i have found so far is this one.
Oak Grigsby 6 Way Switch

However i haven't really looked yet, hence my question.

So the 3-way switch with a push-pull(s) for your coil splits, how do I wire this.
(despite my electronics knowledge I have never rewired a guitar before)

Re: HH wiring + Coil Split

Do you want one push-pull to split both simultaneously or one for each pickup separately?

Re: HH wiring + Coil Split

Lol... neither!

Separate push/pulls for each pickup allows you greater flexibility... like the ability to blend a full humbucker with a split one... and a greater number of available sounds.

A single push/pull for both is simpler to use.

I have guitars set up both ways, but I personally find that I like the simplicity of a single control better... but you may very well feel differently. It really depends on what you’re looking for as to which is better.

Re: HH wiring + Coil Split

I like 1 push/pull to split both better. There are a few sounds the other way that are too similar.

Re: HH wiring + Coil Split

When I used to split the humbuckers in every guitar I own, I used to split them individually. I liked being able to use a neck humbucker and add a bit of sparkle by adding the bridge split. With a Strat, you can do this withan interesting tweak: if you use a volume for each pickup and a master tone, you can blend the tones available to you in a more subtle manner.

Re: HH wiring + Coil Split

3 concentric pots. Vol vol, tone tone, spin o split spin o split. Lol can't get more versatile than that!
