HHH Strat wiring CRAZY!

OK, I've got a question for a wiring wiz-bang out there. I'm a little nuts here, but I got a Strat I want to wire. I have HHH Pup's, 3 stacked 500K pots, 1 - 5 way super switch and 2 ON-ON-ON toggles. The middle pot is a Vintage Rail with only 1 set of leads, so unless I open it up I can't tap it or split it. I want to wire it essentially in an HSH config, but use the toggles to run the Bridge and Neck Hums as either Hum, Split or Series. The 5 way I want to select B - BN - BM - MN - BMN (I think, unless you can think of a better combination). I want to configure the pots as Lower=Tone, upper +volume for each Pup. Is this possible? This is my first ever attempt at building a guitar from scratch, so I'm going a little (well, :32: a lot) overboard.

But hey, it's fun. :laugh2:

While you can do this, I wouldn't recommend it. The BMN combo will probably sound awful. No high-end at all. The problem is, when all three pups are selected, and lets say you're using 250k pots, it will be electrically the same as having one 83.3k pot. Plus, you'll have three active tone controls.

Like I said . . . not much treble will make it through that. ;)

HolyDirt: Awesome THANKS!! I'll try that tonight (I work graves (AAAAAAA!!) and this is my day (night) off. I haven't finished the guitar yet, so I won't know how it sounds for a while, but soon... soon.

ArtieToo: Thanks for the input. If not like this, how would you do it? I'm not locked in stone yet since I'm still building this, so I'd like any advice people with more experience can give me.

For info, the P'ups I have are: N - APH-1N Alnico II Pro
M - SVR-1N Vintage Rail
B - SH-1B '59 Model
That's sort of what the Tone Wizard on this site gave me for a start. It's sort of the combo from a Rosewood and Ebony fingerboards. I listened to the three on the wav files and I thought they sounded good. We'll see.

ArtieToo, also, how about the fact that I'm using 500K pots, and what would it be like (if I could find them) with 1Meg pots? Would changing the caps help? What value would you recommend?

:laugh2:! im gonna have to try this one day just to hear it!

Re: HHH Strat wiring CRAZY!

500k pots would equal 166k and 1 meg pots would equal 333k pots. Not quite so bad. As for me, I'm just a master volume/master tone kinda guy. :)

(Which doesn't make me right and anyone else wrong.) ;)

Re: HHH Strat wiring CRAZY!

Me, I'm more than a bit of a techno-geek. I get carried away with "more-is-better", comes from my past (and present, I guess) gear-head days where a few more goodies was usually worth a few more HP. Ah well, the results of a mis-spent youth...

To bad I never really did quite grow up! :laugh2:

Any way, Thanks for the help and advice on the Pup's!

Re: HHH Strat wiring CRAZY!

Don't get me wrong . . . you won't find anyone much more techno-geeky than me, but at the end of the day, my guitars tend to end up back to a simple configuration. Electronics, fancy switching, and versatile controls can be fun, but you don't want to actualy degrade the "tone".

I do have a couple of interesting ideas in the wings. I'm hoping my Techno-caster will take shape this summer.

Stay tuna-ed. :laugh2:
