How far away is the high E string suppose to be from the edge of the fretboard. Mine is about a 1/16th of an inch away and i didn't know if that was too close. Thanks
It should be approx the same difference between the edge of fretboard and high E and Low E and the other edge. if they are not really close, usually you can loosen neck attaching bolts slightly and pull neck whichever direction needed to make it even. Then retighten neck bolts and your gap should have improved.

The forum needs more info guitarfreak. A picture is worth 1,000 words as they say. It doesn't matter to us if you have a bargain guitar, or a some high dollar machine. We are here to help.
1/16th is pretty low. Way too low for me, as I bend strings a lot. The strings resonant better when they're up a little, and when you're very low, any frets that aren't perfectly level will start to buzz, and that kills tone. If you have any finger strength, a moderate string height will work fine.

it is a fender starcaster guitar. One of the cheap import ones. I can't post a picture of it because it doesn't have any strings on it right now. That is because i am installing a new bridge. I am talking about the distance between the high E string and the fret board edge not the string height if that helps at all. I am wondering because my squier bullet guitar has a larger distance between the high E sting and the fret board than my fender starcaster and I am more used to the distance being larger. It is about 2/16 of an inch away from the fretboard on my squier and 1/16 on my fender starcaster. I need to know how to fix this . Thanks I hope this helps
