High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

Dont buy a hot british.. i had one for a month and it really doesnt have enough gain. If you want true high gain the hot british wont have it. It sounds better than most pedals cause of its versatility, but i really dont care for it.

boss sd-1?? WAY cheaper than the tonebone thing. i tried the mxr zakk wylde pedal it sounds sweet.

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

The Digitech Distortion Factory has models of 7 classic pedals. I'm likin' mine.

Re: High-Gain Distortion Pedal Shopping..

If you want to make your amp's dist strong, you have three choices in my opinion. Here the choices...

BOSS SD-1 super overdrive
MARSHALL Jackhammer
DOD YJM 308 Preamp overdrive

I use jackhammer and i love my sound. Jackhammer has 2 modes ( overdrive and distortion ). I generally use it on overdrive mode. And my strat is screaming... I guess you'll love it...

.....Well balanced may be the term I'm looking for. I like the Rectifier tone, but don't want the pedal to sound too "solid state.".....

"Well Balanced" and "Rectifier" are definitely 2 things you don´t see together often :D:D

But on a more serious note, I think the Bros need a better idea of the tone you want, using arbitrary descriptions like "searing" and "thick" os very vague, becasue what I consider thick someone else may consioder muddy or thin, searing could be buzzy or "too cold" for someone else..... ;)

Sure.

It's about 80% heavy (100% being total thrash death black metal). I'm looking for a real bitey, crunchy (not British, Marshall Crunch) when I palm mute single notes going up and down the fretboard (similar to thump of the muted fifths on e string). Clarity is an absolute must, so distortions that sound killer on the chunky fifths but can't withstand a lead without falling to mud is a no no. I play 100% of the time in Standard, so I'm not looking for the drop C booming tone. Think Iron Maiden type uses, blended with the harmonics and thickness of Dimebag. Extreme, but clear and smooth.

How is that MXR Dime Distortion Stomp? Anyone have one?

In one of the Guitar World or Guitar One magazines a month or two ago there was a review of a bunch of different distortion stomps, and there was one they reviewed called the Demeter Fuzzulator. IIRC, they said it was really clear, but still think and chunky sounding. Listening to the clips on the Demeter site though, it may not have enough gain for what you want.
