High Output Neck Pick-Up?

1000 Watts

Yeah.. I've already decided I'm going to put a Dimebucker in the bridge of my guitar when I build it next year.. And I'm still looking for a High-Output Neck Pick-up that sound great both clean and distorted.... All help is appreciated! :)

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

the Distortion neck is a great pickup- have it in my Ibanez. the thing with high output pickups is that they don't do cleans too well.

the Full Shred neck (have it in another Ibanez) is another rewarding pickup to invest in if you do high gain in the neck, the cleans are much better than the Distortion's.

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

I agree with the Distortion neck recommendation. It does a decent clean, and it does a great clean if you split it.

I really like the EMG 89. A really good single coil tone, especially for cleans. Also a great humbucker tone with clarity and warmth. Heartily recommended.

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

JB Bridge used at the neck. It´s especially cool when you have it set up for slitting as well, because the split tone is a near perfect single coil ;)

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

I'm going to go a bit off on a tangent, but:

Phat Cat.

It's big, loud, and aggressive. It isn't humcancelling, but it definately rocks, and it has a fantastic clean tone.

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

Benjy's idea is not bad. I had a stock PC neck and it was just too fat and hot for me. Had it rewound to 7.0k and it was just right. But for somebody looking for a beefier neck pu to go with a high output bridge, it may very well be ideal. It will hum a little but the cover will keep it from humming as bad as a normal P90.

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

I personally would go against having a High Output nek pickup, but have a medium output pickup.

I say to couple the Dimebucker the '59 is the best option cos they sound great together (middle pickup selector for a H-H config).

The Distortion is a good shout for a high output pickup.

Hey - if you can't give a manly answer don't reply at all! what about two Dimes? Crazy - perhaps. But - everything I've read Dime-wise suggests to me that it might work, especially in a dark guitar. Balance height might be tough, but not impossible...

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

Dime's combo was the Dimebucker/59 most of the time.

You cant be saying that wasn't a "manly" answer when you have a KISS avatar who are the poofiest band of all time. (Well apart from Poison of course!).

poofiest? That's up there with pantaloons. But there's a HUGE difference between black and white concept/kabuki looks and red gloss #5 and mascara!

And Dime was indeed manly - a man among Men. RIP. But who did he have a tattoo of on his chest???

You speak english, not the other way round.

I take it you've never seen what Dime looked like pre-Cowboys From Hell.

Not exactly "manly".:laugh2:

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

Use a Jazz Bridge model as your neck pickup, if you want something with nice cleans and articulate under gain. It's a little fuller sounding than a Jazz neck, and the bass frequencies aren't boomy like the 59, but it still has that clear tone. The Jazz B in the neck is one that's great for singing leads, but also straight rhythm playing with your volume full up. You'll probably start using your neck pickup for more than you used to.

I also think Zerb's suggestion of the JB is good.

Re: High Output Neck Pick-Up?

I was thinking about putting a Dimarzio X2n in the Bridge, and putting my existing Dimebucker in the Neck. Can this be done? Do you think it would sound mean? My goal is to set this guitar on fire. The guitar is a Dean Dime Flame. I dont like the Dean pickup, and the Dimebucker sucks for rythem. So i figured, id put the Dimebucker in the neck for solos, and harmonics, and get the X2n for heavy rythems. What do you guys think about that setup?
