High Wattage Amps & Apartments.....

Re: High Wattage Amps & Apartments.....

Maybe, your playing is not so good?

My playing is fine. I just recognize that some people are *****y when it comes to noise/volume levels. Having said that, I'm just trying to be considerate to avoid any conflict.

I just got myself a POD HD (tabletop model), and i think its fantastic.
my apartment is really wierd. the walls seem to amplify sound... and frankly, i'm so embarrassed about my musical talents, that i don't want anybody else hearing me .
and its got a dual rectifier amp model

Re: High Wattage Amps & Apartments.....

I know some guys downgrade to smaller rigs but quite frankly I don't really want to. Having said that, I have a 100 watt Recto that I don't intend on getting rid of it, however, I am aware I may need to figure something out for it whether it be an Isolation Cab or an attenuator. I was just curious if there are any apartment livers that have made big rigs work at low volumes or if they had to get an isolation cab or attenuator. Discuss..... :cool2:

I had good recording results by running my head to a Weber attenuator, then LINE OUT from the Weber attenuator to a CAI, then to a software cabinet modeling program.

Sounds complicated, but it wasn't - my Weber had a LINE OUT after the speaker motor, so the push and pull of the amp with the speaker was all there.

I've never been to big on amp modeling. Don't get me wrong modelers are cool for what they do but the sound quality just isn't there.

Re: High Wattage Amps & Apartments.....

I use my 100W head at low volumes. It's not loud enough to hear the low end and growly midrange thicken up as i turn it up, but it still sounds great.

The key is playing at times when it's ok to get a little loud (but not so loud that you piss off your neighbors), for example, right after I get back from work, at about 5:30 pm, or any time in the middle of the day if I have an off-day.

Re: High Wattage Amps & Apartments.....

A Deluxe Reverb can pump almost as much volume as a 50W amp can. Wattage isn't about volume its about headroom. The nice thing about low wattage amps is they breakup very early and I believe this is what most people are after at home. Personally I don't live in an apartment I own my home & I play fairly loud when I play at home. The only person that ever complains is my wife but she's used to it.
