Highest output

Can anyone here tell me what is Duncan's highest output pickup (not including active pickups)?

I am looking for something as or more powerful then the X2N.

Thank you.

Re: Highest output

I would say invader -but dimebucker has more clarity-possibly hotrails?
I prefer the sound of boosted overdrive on medium output.

Re: Highest output

distortion parallel axis trembucker?

pretty sure you could power your amp with that thing :D

Re: Highest output

Because of 2 reasons.

a. I do not like the sound of active pickups
b. The guitar I am building is going to be a METAL MACHINE, which requires a lot of gain, which means I need a high gain pickup, yet I want as minimum woodcarving and chambering as possible. An active pickup will require a place for a battery. I don't want to carve out that much wood.

Re: Highest output

At a certain point you have to ask "how high is high?" Much of the importance of high gain pickups over the years has come from their ability to drive amps to that extra level of gain/distortion but nowadays we've got amps with all the gain you need for super heavy sound without being pushed very hard at the input stage. That doesn't mean that the overall sound you're looking for won't be found in a high gain pickup, but I'd be shopping for sound not just output. And I certainly wouldn't be too hung up on having the absolute highest output of any (passive) pickup ever. There are a lot of pickups (with a lot of different sounds) that all qualify as high output. Hotter doesn't automatically equal better, even with METAL MACHINE as the goal.

Re: Highest output

I had the X2N before, and the closest to that is probably the Dimebucker in terms of output..other's that are close to it would be the invader and the Parallel Axis Distortion. I haven't tried the Scott Ian El Diablo rails but that one too is also high output, but you must buy it through the custom shop.

Re: Highest output

What would you recommend for a neckthru V with a
maple neck
ebony fingerboard
Mahogany wings
String through TOM

I am looking for a really TIGHT and CLEAR sound.
I like the tone of the SH5 in an alder guitar
and the tone of the X2N in an alder guitar

both have the exact same specs except for the wings.

Re: Highest output

You are all very wrong. The Seymour Duncan Livewires Heavy Metal has the highest output of any pickup on the planet. It makes pickups like the X2N, EMG 81, and the Invader look weak in comparison. I am 100% dead serious!!!!!!!

As far as Duncans highest output Passive pickup, it would most certainly be the Invader. Possibly the Parallel axis Distortion but, I have not played it.

Re: Highest output

The distortion certainly bets the Invader with it's oversized magnets. The JB with A5 doesn't have a chance.

The distortion sounds like the right choice here overall.

Theoretically the Stag Mag with it's rods might be even louder (or get a custom built one with A5 rods) but honestly what lame amp doesn't have enough gain with *any* of these awg 44 wire pickups?

Re: Highest output

I have an X2N. very powerful passive but actives will eat it for lunch. SD Livewire Heavy Metal is probably most powerful like Theodie said.

I'd say another Custom, but with mahogany wings you may have more bottom end than the adler guitars. Which leads me to the distortion which was tight and clear in my V.

I say the Distortion would be a great choice for what he wants but, are you saying the Distortion has more output than the Invader on account of its oversized ceramic magnet?

The Invader has the same ceramic as the Distortion in the middle and 2 more ceramic magnet spacers in it too. It uses the exact wind as the Distortion too. On account of 2 more magnets, the Invader has more output than the Distortion.

Re: Highest output

Has anyone here tried Nyoudium magnet pickups?

No but, if you like the Custom and you are willing to try other magnets, try an alnico 8 in a Custom. That alone will give it more output and I hear the tone is quite nice too. The Alnico 8 is a very strong magnet!

Stay tuned, Duncan is coming out with a SH-15 in the very near future which is supposed to be very hot, tight, and have an alnico 8 magnet. If I was you, I would wait a bit for one of those from what I hear about it.
