Highest output

Re: Highest output

No but, if you like the Custom and you are willing to try other magnets, try an alnico 8 in a Custom. That alone will give it more output and I hear the tone is quite nice too. The Alnico 8 is a very strong magnet!

Stay tuned, Duncan is coming out with a SH-15 in the very near future which is supposed to be very hot, tight, and have an alnico 8 magnet. If I was you, I would wait a bit for one of those from what I hear about it.

I'm in the process of planning the guitar.
There is a lot more time...
This SH-15 sounds like an amazing pickup.

Anyone ever heard of those?

The samples they have sound amazing.

I know nothing about them but, it looks interesting.

The clips are fairly cool sounding, Unique yet, toneful in an interesting way.

Re: Highest output

ok, i looked it up

invader bridge - 16.8k
parallel axis distortion - 21.3k :D

in terms of output the PATB-2 smokes!

FWIW actives are a lot less hassle to fit than you might think.. even EMGs, they can work with 1 9v battery (though i prefer 2..)

combined with the fact all actives use the smaller pots, you can easily fit at least a single 9v into a les paul or a strat's control cavity, i've done both :)

they just sit under the pots!

Re: Highest output

Highest ouput means highest compression but doesn't mean loudest !

High ouput pickups are lame IMHO .

Power comes with amplification .

Re: Highest output

if all you want is higher output to drive your amp harder then use a power booster type pedal. 1000 times more output than any humbucker just with flick of a switch

Re: Highest output

I say the Distortion would be a great choice for what he wants but, are you saying the Distortion has more output than the Invader on account of its oversized ceramic magnet?

The Invader has the same ceramic as the Distortion in the middle and 2 more ceramic magnet spacers in it too. It uses the exact wind as the Distortion too. On account of 2 more magnets, the Invader has more output than the Distortion.

I thought the Distortion has the additional magnets and the Invader has one magnet but the bigger polepieces, with same wind.

Re: Highest output

distortion parallel axis trembucker?

pretty sure you could power your amp with that thing :D

I did it on daily Basis! :D

Yeah that thing is very hot!
But IMHO ,no Duncan PU is as hot as the X2N..That's a totally different monster!!!!
But PATB-2 has the balls without that big Magnetic pull...More sustain!:spam:

The Distortion has one oversize ceramic and the Invader has three mags layed center, and on either side of the poles, where spacers would normally be.

Re: Highest output

Because of 2 reasons.

a. I do not like the sound of active pickups
b. The guitar I am building is going to be a METAL MACHINE, which requires a lot of gain, which means I need a high gain pickup, yet I want as minimum woodcarving and chambering as possible. An active pickup will require a place for a battery. I don't want to carve out that much wood.

If you're talking about metal the DD or Custom do that A LOT better than the Invader or X2N.

Re: Highest output

yeah i've tried a fair few pickups and the best heavy hi-gain sound i think i'll ever have is a screamin' demon in an RG!

remember, you can always boost or otherwise add gain - yet to see a pedal that adds definition, clarity, and 'real' punch and thump..

Re: Highest output

Thanks everyone.
It seems like I'm either going to go with
SH15
Custom
Custom 5
Custom Custom

Leaving towards the custom and the SH15

Custom Custom = mud in high gain. Too sludgy. Custom 5 and Custom are very tight.

Re: Highest output

I have a Dimebucker in one guitar and a JB Jr. in another. They are about equal in output, but the JB Jr. is more articulate and clear.
