I'm looking at an american made stratocaster. I really like the highway 1 series but on the store i read reviews at, they would have a lot more bad than good to say about it. Would someone please tell me why i should or shouldn't get this guitar? (highway 1)

Re: Highway 1 guitars

The finish might be one thing, alot of people dont like the finish and the colors. i dont know much else about the guitars.

Re: Highway 1 guitars

The finish is the attraction to me; the minimal finish allows the alder to resonate extremely well. And that equals good tone. I have heard that some play better than others, but I've loved every H1 Strat I've played so far! I've always viewed the H1 as the ultimate kit guitar!!

I would advise playing several and deciding for yourself.

Exactly what Twilight said. +1 If I were in the market for a strat or a tele, a highway is probally what I would get.

i like the body and that ultrathin finish.. but 'id definately get a diferent neck as i dont like it.. will probably feel diferent for you, but it's not my thing

a highway tele on the other hand :32:

I think that the HW1's are the best thing Fender has going right not that is not a Custom Shop thing! I love my HW1 Tele, and the Stratts kick ass...you don't have to change anything, but with a simple pickup change I thing they will go up aginst guitars costing twice as much! Ask STRATDELUXER97...he has one ore maybe 2 of them. And it's like the other guis are saying...the finish is one of the best parts!

I've loved every one of the H1 Teles I've played. They totally nail the vintage vibe. I haven't played the H1 Strat, though.

If only I could find a H1 Tele in rosewood/sunburst...

I had to look for a ong time to find one that was NOT burst and rosewood! :laugh2: ...anyway, they are killer guitars!

I Love the finish and the resonance of the body on these guitars! My guitar has just the Highway 1 body and I used all of my own hardware and pickups...The guitar really just needs some better pickups and a better bridge, but the pots and electronics were like the American Series(CTS Pots etc..) I have Surfers in the neck and middle and a texas hot in the bridge...I've played the necks on stock H1s and I Liked it...Mine has an early 80's 12" radius American Std neck..My guitar is a "Mongrel" made up of stuff I like..A combination of vintage bridge but with modern Schaller tuners and the flatter radiused neck and upgraded Antiquity pickups...I Own 6 strats,so this is just one of many..

Great guitars for the money and basically an american strat assembled in Mexico,I think?

Re: Highway 1 guitars

The ones I played (strats) sounded really nice. Albeit they DO need no pups but what fender doesn't? The neck is the same as the American SEries neck. The only difference is no microtilt on the body. This could be good or bad. I LOVE the microtilt. That's why I'm not selling my dad my American Hotrod and buying a HWY 1.

Re: Highway 1 guitars

H1s are cool guitars. Nice and resonant cause of the finish, great necks....the trem bridge is the same as the ones on Mexican guitars so there is room for improvement (Graphtec saddles) but that is easy to overcome.

Pretty nice pickups for stock units.

Re: Highway 1 guitars

There awesome guitars i absolutely love the finishes expecially if you wipe it down with lemon oil. The only problem i have with it is the 9.5 radius fingerboard but the pluses weigh out the one negative 10 fold.

Re: Highway 1 guitars

I've got a tele in burst and I love the finish. It's the main reason i bought the guitar. I put a set of Duncans in there and it's golden.

Re: Highway 1 guitars

There is somemthing I forgot earlier. My buddy Thomas bought one of the blonde pbass hwy 1's. The harmonics nad tone are incredible maybe it's due to the finish I don't know. He slapped in vintage P (my treat) and a gold anodized pickguard and voila it smokes!

His gripes are the bridge and the nut. The bridge b/c it's "potmetal" and a rear load. He says now he will keep the rear load because he doesn't want to drill. But he is afraid to change the bridge because maybe the potmetal is contributing to the smoothness.

The nut b/c it chipped/broke while changing strings (same size).
