Re: Highway one or standard tele?

I'd go with Highway 1 too. For whatever reason, the difference in quality between Mexican and Highway 1 Teles is greater than a Mexican and Highway 1 Strat.

Re: Highway one or standard tele?

Highway 1. Not much more $$$ than the Standard and it's a great playing guitar. USA body and neck with Mexican hardware and electronics.

Re: Highway one or standard tele?

I'm for the HWY1 too... It is an all around better guitar.... as much as i love my MIM Standard tele the HWY is a better guitar if i had a choice....

Re: Highway one or standard tele?

IMHO a highway one is still an upgrade over a standard so it's kind of hard to ask this question and not get a universal highway one response. It doesn't mean that standards aren't worth buying though. I still have to mim strats, just because i picked them up, they sounded good, and probably had some kind of deal going...

+1, The closest guitar shop to me is a fender dealer so I've played both quite a few times. Usually the Hwy1 feels better to me IMO, but there is nothing wrong with the mexican standard at all.

Re: Highway one or standard tele?

nope nothing wrong at all with MIM Teles... mine is kind of special.... the neck and body vibrate like crazy when i strum loud chords.... quite amazing wood in this one! I have also kept the electronics stock in this thing as i found i really like it as is.... only thing i did was buy a modern Gotoh tele bridge as the past owner had taken the modern off and installed a 3 barrow vintage style bridge.... i couldn't get used to it so instead of getting the special angled brass saddles i just went with a whole new modern bridge.... But besides having to change the bridge it is stock....

'two MIM strats", I should say =) I'm getting bad in my old age =P

They've changed it up some for 2006 I think so there's a good difference now just between a 2005 mim and a 2006 mim - I really like the new ones more, they're worth the 50 extra bucks IMHO. Other little things like potential differences in neck radius, fret-size, etc may throw a decision one way or the other. My 96 mim strat has vintage frets while the 06 one has jumbos. I really dig the jumbos. I wonder if the new sustain block on the MIMs are also comparative to the HW1s...

Re: Highway one or standard tele?

I havent had a lot of experience with the hwy 1's, but I absolutley love my MIM tele. give them both a try and deceide for yourself.
