Highway One Tele body

Hey everyone! I have a question for those who have used Fender Highway series axes.

I just picked up a Highway 1 tele body off of the E-bay (darn, coulda sworn that was a poly finish in the pic...). Gotta learn to be more careful.

Anyway, I'm wanting to construct my own tele. Custom hardware and pups. I figured, why buy a new USA just to take half the parts off? So being that I got a highway one by mistake, I was wondering how these stack up to USA tele bodies in terms of sound. I wasn't too impressed with the look of the highway one strats I've seen so far (haven't heard one though), so I'm hoping this body will strike me differently.

Anyway, I guess if I don't like it, it'll be on the trading post for a very reasonable price (hehehe).

Thanks

Re: Highway One Tele body

I have a Highway one Tele and I couldn't be happier. I played over a dozen Fenders and quite a few other Tele clones before getting mine. I love it...maybe you will too. If not, let me know...I am going to build another Tele soon!

Re: Highway One Tele body

I am not sure about how it will sound, I have not played one. I would ask "the guy who invented fire" about it. He owns a highway 1 tele. If you decide to unload it for a very resonable price, Let me know!!!! I may be very interested.

aren't the highway ones finished with 'satin' poly?

No, the bodies are indeed thin satin lacquer; but, not nitrocellulose. The neck is an American Series neck and it's satin poly. Be careful....The Hwy 1's look really cool with their finishes; but those finishes are very delicate and easily faded and chipped. I find that pretty cool actually.... I just got finished giving mine a swimming pool route.

Cheers,

Butch...you're right, it is NOT poly! I love that fact that these guitars "age" more like nitro! IMO they sound better too because of the finish.

Re: Highway One Tele body

I like my Hwy1 Tele a lot. Great burst finish, and I did the ACRYLIC LAQUER.

Re: Highway One Tele body

I Love the Highway 1 Strats and Teles.
That thin Lacquer finish really lets these guitars " Breathe " !!!

Re: Highway One Tele body

Thanks for the replies guys. I just bought it yesterday of the Ebay. It is sunburst and quite reflective...that's why I didn't think of it not being an American series body. Of course, then I noticed in the pic that it didn't have the micro tilt adjustment...

I'm 'pretty sure' when it gets here I'll offer it up here for sale before I move it to Ebay. I think I might do a Warmoth or USA Customs instead. How much would these bodies be worth to those of you who are interested? Like I said, it will be reasonable, for sure. I just wanna make a little back on the auction ;)

Re: Highway One Tele body

Uh oh, when folks start talking like that, they got hosed on the original deal. What did you pay for it?

Re: Highway One Tele body

i'd say it's worth about oh...hmmmm.....a random guess $236 shipped or so :laugh2:

Re: Highway One Tele body

Heh!

Well, I don't know if I got hosed or not Scott, but it was about $230. I'm guessing that Mike may be an e-bayer...:) I was asking what the general price range should be because I have no experience with them.

Some seem to like the finish and the Highway 1 stuff in general, I just don't know if I'd be that big of a fan. To be fair, I'll take a look at it first. I just like the look of the poly finish.

yeah, i'm an avid ebay junky i just bought a tele off ebay the other day and lost a bid on another one yesterday :( I thought i saw that body while searching for one for myself...so i checked the completed auctions to make sure it ws the same one...anyway, that's a great looking body IMO i'd keep it and use it if i were you.

Re: Highway One Tele body

Yeah, it does look nice actually. I have a tendency to be a bit tough on the guitars, so I guess I'll end up with a 'relic' if I actually do use it much. Besides, I guess this could by my 'experiment' tele...what kind of Tele did you actually pick up Mike?

BTW, any of you Tele guys have any pickup suggestions for me? I like to rock out...Dokken, Metallica, YJM, Ozzy (RR of course) style stuff, but I was thinking of a 'rock' machine. I do have an old set of EMG tele pickups from the late 80's laying around, but I far prefer passive pickups. Of course, I could do a search...I'm just brand new to Teles and would like some suggestions.

Re: Highway One Tele body

Hey guys...just got the tele body in. It's very lightweight and the finish is much better than I thought it would be. I didn't like the solid colors I saw at Guitar Center on Strats, but this doesn't look as 'cheap'. The thing is VERY light as well. Just may be a keeper!

Do USA tele bridges and hardware fit on these axes?

Re: Highway One Tele body

Not sure on the hardware, but you can put a bit of guitar polish on that flat finish and it'll perk right up.

Re: Highway One Tele body

i actually like the hiway series teles better than the U.S. standards. they sound better and age qwiker. but thats just my opinion.
