Historic NAD x 3

I bought all three of these amps: Diezel Lil Fokker, Soldano Hot Rod 25, Friedman Small Box. The Lil Fokker will be here Tuesday, the Hot Rod 25 on Wednesday, and the Small Box supposedly in 3 weeks (frustrating to wait for amps that so long). Audio, pics and reviews to come as they arrive.

WOW.

You're going to have to hole up for three weeks with those. Hope you secured some vacation time! :)

Well there's a long, anxious wait for the Small Box so being lucky to have both a HR25 and Fokker make it a lot easier to wait. Perhaps my most anticipated amp is the Small Box because there is only one brand that has recently ripped me away from all others and that's Friedman. Ever since I had the Pink Taco, I have tried their Brown Eye 100 and Naked amps and I absolutely got hooked. Friedman definitely has a deviant streak, but he is an utterly brilliant amp builder.

The only factor right now is the Lil Fokker which I bought because it has a nice clean channel and is supposed to have a gain channel that sounds like a cross between the VH4 ch3 and Herbert ch2+. It's kind of a variable amp because if I feel like I need more features then I'm definitely going back to a DMoll. However, I like the idea of a simple, uncluttered amp that's dialed in with just the regular EQ knobs. The only thing I see the Fokker really needing though is another button on the foot switch to turn on/off the FX loop. We will see the day after tomorrow.

Rob a bank?

Wow!

Nope, it's called sell all of your amps and replace them. I literally have no amp at the moment and that definitely sucks. My cabs are just sitting there all lonely with nothing on top. These things happen as a result of always buying amps that I like the best rather than amps that fit MY playing style and sound particularly good when I play them. I learned to settle on guitars a couple of years ago, but been going through growing pains on amps for a while. I think I'm finally learning to accept that I will always use high gain amps and all the other blues or classic voiced amps are super nice but just not a good fit.

Re: Historic NAD x 3

This thread totally smells like dollar bills! You don't see a Diezel/Friedman/Soldano NAD every day, much less a triplet like that.
Enjoy your new toys in good health, 'Dood. I'm looking forward to your reviews.

Re: Historic NAD x 3

First of all, I didn't post this thread to brag. I posted it because I thought that many people would find it interesting to learn more about these three amps. There is not much in the way of information on any of them. Even though the HR25 has been out for quite a while, there's still not a lot of info about it. Apparently, some people seem to misunderstand the intent of this thread. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I don't seek approval, so I'm not the type to brag about anything.

Where does the "historic "fit in ? Or should that be "Histrionic "?

As usual, your contribution to the thread is pathetic and worthless. First, find me a thread on this forum where someone else bought all three of those brand amps in the same week. If not then it's historic. Your attempt at being clever was an epic fail. The "historic" part of my thread wasn't meant to be taken literally. It was merely used to convey the sense that it was a major purchase, but it would require common sense to discern that.

I see stock photos...

It helps to read the post. It also helps to know a little bit about the amps. First of all, I said two of them will be here Tuesday. I'm not one to B.S. about what I have or what I can do if that's what you think. Second, the Lil Fokker just started shipping literally days ago. The Small Box hasn't even started shipping yet. You're not going to see pics, reviews or hear much in the way of user-created audio for a while.

wonder why they call that diezel "lil", it's like a mile wide.

without hearing them or knowing anything about them besides their brand names, I'm going to say the Friedman will win out for best sounding.

not sure how I'd even be able to wrap my head around three new ones of that caliber at the same time. I got my valvestate back from the shop right when my gsp 1101 arrived and I still find myself neglecting one or the other.

did you really sell off the ecstacies? original and some type of anniversary model right?

Well I'm not into aviation or anything, but apparently the inspiration behind it comes from a plane or jet called the Fokker. I also saw a brief comment somewhere that the color theme was also inspired by the plane.

Yeah, I must admit that the Friedman is my most anticipated purchase. However, I don't think there is anything in it being "the best." Diezel has not made a single bad sounding channel in any of their amps. Diezel literally hits a home run with everything they make and that's why I love their amps so much. Soldano, well his reputation proceeds him. I have played all of the Soldano amps at one point or another, owned a few, and they all sound incredibly good.

Notice that all of the amps I bought are relatively simple in features and operation. This is deliberate because I'm tired or fooling with things that I never use, and each of my amps will have a specific use which I think they're inclined to do by design. First, the Friedman gives me the most versatility and my basic tone for anything. The Diezel gives me that awesome liquid lead tone that Diezels are known for, plus a clean channel with higher headroom than the Friedman. Then the Soldano will give me the crunch sounds I want. It actually has a pretty fair amount of cleanish sounds, and goes high gain, but the array of crunch sounds is probably its strongest point. Not only that, they each give me a variety of my favorite tube types. The Friedman has EL34's, Diezel has the big bottles - KT77's, and the Soldano has 5881/6L6.

I'm so jealous right now it borders on outright covetousness...

Seriously congratulations, those are 3 awesome amps. I mean, compared with what I play, EL34's are big bottles lol.

I find myself gravitating towards simple amplifier interfaces, honestly. I like my versatility to come from the guitar, which it seems like you do too seeing as you've also just done 3 pretty stellar guitar builds as well.

That's totally cool. Any relation to that builder? I really like the 18w Marshall style heads and often think about picking up the Avatar 18 with 6V6. However, I picked up a Friedman Pink Taco a while back and found it to be an amazing little amp, really loud too. You might like that one if you haven't already tried it.

Um... thanks. So now, we have easy access to a stock photo of each amp, and a general schedule of when they will arrive at your door. And we know that you will apparently drop a stoopid amount of money on expensive amps that nobody has a lot of information about.

I know I've learned a lot from this thread...

I picked up a bunch of cheap solid state amps over the last month, I'll post a pic of them all together after I move and set up my new recording space. Will that make you happy? :D
