Re: hm strat

I've seen them on EBay for between $600 and $900...but that was over a year ago, and they were somewhat beat up looking (not trashed, just heavily played).

Actually I've seen them go for much cheaper. In the $400 range.

The HM Strat intrigues me as well. I will own one some day. There seems to be some fairly big differences in HM Strats considering they were only around for a few years. Most had standard Fender headstocks. Some had a hockey stick head. Most had no pickguard. Some apparently did. Some were MIA, some were MIJ, some were both, and apparently some were made in other undisclosed locations by the CIA. Actually I just made that last part up. :)

i wish i had the money so bad , its beautifull and its signed by greg howe
Assuming that auction's legit, that may be a sweet deal. But part of the charm of the HM Strats was their painted black headstocks. This one's been replaced with a standard Strat neck. I know Greg Howe supposedly actually owned this one but somehow it just doesn't do it for me. It seems to have been too heavily modified for my tastes. And I kind of had my heart set on a bluestone finish. Kinda like the red one shown above. Anyone know if they ever came in fluorescent orange or green? That would be sweet too!

build your own, it's much more fun that way and you can get it 100% to your specs.

The only problem is the scale. The HM has a 25.1 inch scale, 24 fret neck. So far as I know, Warmoth won't make them.

They'll do a 25.5 inch, 24 fret neck if that's close enough. a 2/5 inch difference in scale length would be a minor thing when you consider the quality of Warmoth's parts.
