Hmm. Maybe the CC will work.

I bought a Custom Custom this past summer and after I installed it in my Strat I was very disappointed in it. Nothing but a loud, overbearing midrange mess. Just terrible. Took it out of the guitar and forgot about it. I was in an experimental mood tonight so I thought I'd give it another try. Used new 500k pots and a new .022 cap. Well, I don't know what happened but it's a whole lot better this time around. The mids are strong and the highs can bite a bit but it seems to be workable which was'nt the case before. I've still got some tweaking to do so we'll see what happens. I know I had it all wired right the last time I tried it, so what happened between then and now I don't know!

I think that I have a 330K pot and 0,47 cap and it sounds just right. I hope this helps.

Re: Hmm. Maybe the CC will work.

Thanks for the tip, Marin. Are you using a 330K pot for just the tone? I may try that.

Re: Hmm. Maybe the CC will work.

Actually, they are 300K Gibson pots. The CC is very midrange, smooth, but midrange. It may be that it's just not the right pickup for you.

Your 500K should have already brightened it up considerably.

If you want more defined (upper) mids, the JB might be the right one.

Mike, I've noticed a similar phenomenon before when installing new pups. Sometimes, I initially like it, then later on, don't like it, and vice-versa. I'm not sure what causes that.

One simple thing, is it might be pup heigth. That can make a considerable difference in the sound of a pup.

I've noticed the CC in a clean amp is some what Hard sounding, and
Unpleasent to the ear. But when you start to add gain to the PuP
it really starts to come alive!

That's what I was trying to say. Yes, not too keen on the clean sound but with gain it's a whole differant thing. Again, Im going to give it a bit of time and try a few things. Odd pickup. Thanks guys.
