so, yeah. this just happened? I was given the opportunity to lay my hands on two acoustics by Guild, from their now closed New Hartford facility.
The first is a Guild Orpheum 14 fret dreadnought (Rosewood back 'n sides, Adirondack spruce top and bracing, mahogany neck, ebony board and bridge and headcap, classic small headstock with scribble logo). I am not a fan of dreads. Too boomy, too much low end, too sharp in the top and woofy in the midrange. But this sucker has it all. it's got the warmth but with the airyness in the upper mids. It's got a smoothness to it,I simply can't compare it. Also, I just like the name
Compared to my D03R Larrivee, this one is so, so much better. I mean, the Guild is several times more expensive but also several times better. I actually enjoy this guitar. It's not my main axe and it surely won't be, nor do I intend it to be. But as far as dreads go... GODDAMN this is good.
The second is a 12 string Doyle Dykes signature. I've got me a six string last year (x-mas present for myself) and now I've got the flamed maple back 12string to match. I don't like 12 strings. I hate 'm. I work with guitars daily and have to churn through a bunch of 12 strings a day, but this baby... wow. It's got an almost citar like vibe to it. So aetherial. It's literally the tone of my 6 string DD but now with 12. yeah. stupid to say it like that but it's true.
So, that brings it up to four Guilds.
Hope you enjoy the pics
